Fresno State Aims For Shot At Revenge

Now, Head Coach Jeff Tedford has seen his Bulldogs struggle out of conference. He knows what he has with his Fresno State team. Still, the Bulldogs are 7-4 (6-1 in the MWC West). Fresno State averages exactly 31 points per game and are riding the wave of a six-game winning streak. Last week, the Bulldogs continued their dominance of Nevada schools by routing Nevada on the road 41-14.

Yes, Jake Haener, the Fresno State quarterback has been hot of late with nine touchdowns and not a single interception in his previous three starts.

Now, Fresno State possesses one of the deepest wide receiving corps in college football. The talent on the field at any time is quite impressive. Jalen Cropper and Nikko Remigio are game-breakers that Wyoming may have problems with on Friday night. If that is not enough, Jordan Mims and Malik Sherrod provide a nice duo that can run the ball well between the tackles.

The key for the Bulldogs is the balance with that little extra game-breaking ability. Jake Haener helps immensely in giving that even-keeled attack a little juice. Without the proper signal-caller, Fresno State lost four of its first five games on the season. The Bulldogs are a much more complete team now. More importantly, the offense may have helped the defense find its identity.

Fresno State’s defense yields a bit less than 369 yards per contest but more importantly came up big at UNLV and Nevada the past two weeks when the Bulldogs needed stops. That will be needed again versus Wyoming at home.

Wyoming Faces An Uphill Battle

Head coach Craig Bowl understands the game against Fresno State will not be easy. The Cowboys have had some issues containing balanced attacks like the Bulldogs. However, Wyoming did hold its own against Boise State last week in a tough home loss.

Yes, moral victories mean little in a season where the Cowboys are still battling to stay second in the Mountain Division of the MWC.

This game features a contrasting style of attacking. Titus Swen is a running back who can make something out of nothing. Look at his run at Boise State last week. His speed is something that could concern even Fresno State’s defense. After that, can the Cowboys control the clock enough to keep the Fresno State offense off the field? Andrew Peasley’s arms and legs may be quite an asset on Friday night. He will need to buy time to help Wyoming’s offense, especially in the passing game.

The key remains simple for the Cowboys. Control the line of scrimmage.

Wyoming’s preseason NCAAF win total of five victories was passed a few weeks ago.

Fresno State vs Wyoming Prediction

Most pundits have Fresno State as the most worthy competitor to Boise State in the conference, but the Cowboys nearly pulled off the victory last week.

Given that both teams are on rather warm to-hot runs, this game could be just as back and forth as last week’s was for the Cowboys.

Wyoming getting 14.5 points seems a bit much given how the Cowboys are capable of playing. College football after dark should be lots of fun Friday night.

Pick:  Wyoming +14.5 (-110)
