- Thanksgiving Thursday features the Houston Texans taking on the Detroit Lions and the Washington Football Team against the Dallas Cowboys
- Sportsbooks have opened up props on who will be the top performers in each major yardage statistic
- See who is favored in each along with our best bets
Week 12 of the NFL — aka Thanksgiving week — is upon us! There’s one fewer Thursday game than we’ve grown accustomed to since 2006, due to COVID-19 issues with the Baltimore Ravens. Hence, Turkey Day’s scheduled marquee matchup — the AFC North tilt between the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers — has been moved to Sunday.
Thankfully, there’s still plenty of action to be had between games featuring the Houston Texans vs Detroit Lions and the Washington Football Team vs Dallas Cowboys. Online betting sites have posted a slew of Thanksgiving Day props for the two remaining games on the board, so let’s take a look through the menu and see where there’s some value. You can jump to each section with the links below.
Passing | Rushing | Receiving | Points Scored
Odds to Have the Most Passing Yards on Thanksgiving
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Deshaun Watson (HOU) | +100 |
Matthew Stafford (DET) | +195 |
Andy Dalton (DAL) | +550 |
Alex Smith (WAS) | +600 |
Odds as of Nov. 25
Watson is the obvious favorite for several reasons. First, he has 2,883 passing yards compared to Stafford’s 2,581. Interestingly, Smith (918) and Dalton’s (655) combined total of 1,573 yards is still less than Dak Prescott’s total of 1,856.
Prescott, of course, suffered a season-ending leg injury in Week 5. Second, Watson has the highest yards/attempt average by far (8.5).

Another factor to consider is the Lions — ranked No. 23 in the league in passing yards allowed — have the worst pass defense of the four teams playing on Thanksgiving. Watson is also coming off a 344-yard effort against the Patriots on Sunday. He’s a good bet in this spot.
Smith might be worth taking a flyer on, though. The Cowboys defense has been abysmal this season. Plus, the veteran quarterback posted 325 and 390-yard performances in back-to-back outings against the Giants and Lions in Weeks 9 and 10.
Odds to Have the Most Rushing Yards on Thanksgiving
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Ezekiel Elliott (DAL) | +120 |
Antonio Gibson (WAS) | +250 |
Duke Johnson (HOU) | +320 |
Adrian Peterson (DET) | +950 |
D’Andre Swift (DET) | +1100 |
JD McKissic (WAS) | +1600 |
Tony Pollard (DAL) | +2300 |
CJ Prosise (HOU) | +3200 |
Kerryon Johnson (DET) | +3800 |
This one has No. 21 written all over it. In his three career Thanksgiving games (Elliott missed the 2017 game due to suspension), Zeke has totaled 400 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, giving him over 100 scrimmage yards in each contest.
If he gets over the century mark again, he’ll become the first player in NFL history to record at least 100 scrimmage yards in four consecutive Thanksgiving Day games. With that in mind, I fully expect Mike McCarthy to feed Elliott Thursday.

Gibson is an intriguing choice for similar reasoning to why Smith is a reasonable play — that being Dallas just isn’t good on defense.
But I like the chalky Elliott here because of the situation.
Odds to Have the Most Receiving Yards on Thanksgiving
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Terry McLaurin (WAS) | +190 |
Will Fuller (HOU) | +340 |
Amari Cooper (DAL) | +500 |
Brandin Cooks (HOU) | +500 |
Marvin Jones (DET) | +600 |
CeeDee Lamb (DAL) | +1100 |
Michael Gallup (DAL) | +1300 |
TJ Hockenson (DET) | +1500 |
Danny Amendola (DET) | +3000 |
Marvin Hall (DET) | +3000 |
Dalton Schultz (DAL) | +5000 |
Dontrelle Inman (WAS) | +7500 |
Isaiah Wright (WAS) | +7500 |
Jordan Akins (HOU) | +7500 |
Logan Thomas (WAS) | +7500 |
Steven Sims (WAS) | +7500 |
This is clearly the most interesting prop on the Turkey Day board. Choosing which receiver to wager on here is like choosing my favorite Thanksgiving side. If McLaurin is mashed potatoes, then Fuller is stuffing. But, oh, that green bean casserole that looks like Cooper is so tasty. My mouth is watering as I write this!
McLaurin is the rightful favorite as the only player in the league’s top-10 in receiving yards this season (he’s No. 4 with 871) playing Thursday. But I’m a little surprised Cooper isn’t higher. At No. 15 with 736 yards, the four-time Pro Bowler is very capable of exploding on the big stage.
Then, there’s Fuller. The talented Texans wideout owns four 100-yard games in 2020 and could be primed for a big one against Detroit. There’s also this nugget when it comes to potential targets.
#Texans WRs Kenny Stills and WR Randall Cobb are both out and won’t travel for tomorrow’s game vs. the #Lions. Cobb has a signifcant toe injury and will miss several more games.

Washington has allowed the least amount of passing yards to opponents this season, so I’m eliminating all Dallas players. And I’m tempted by Marvin Jones here. But Fuller is a sneaky play.
Odds to Score the Most/Least Points on Thanksgiving
Team | Odds to Score the Most Points | Odds to Score the Least Points |
---|---|---|
Houston Texans | +210 | +320 |
Dallas Cowboys | +270 | +250 |
Detroit Lions | +375 | 250 |
Washington Football Team | +400 | +230 |
Houston is an easy favorite to score the most points — on paper. But it’s actually Dallas that has averaged more points per game than its Lone Star State counterpart.
The Cowboys have averaged 23.5 points per game, while the Texans and Lions have each posted 22.7 points an outing. The Washington Football Team is fourth, averaging 20.0 points a game. But here’s where it gets interesting. In the last three games, Washington actually tops the group, putting up 22.3. Based on the price, I think Alex Smith and Co. are worth the play here.

Meantime, Detroit over its last three is barely putting up two scores, going for 16.7 a game. Love the Lions to continue that downward trend against a somewhat confident Houston defense.
Happy betting and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
