2021 Super Bowl Odds Moving in Tampa Bay’s Favor Ahead of Kickoff

We are just hours away from kickoff for Super Bowl 55 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm ET (February 7) and the game is being broadcast by CBS.

When the Super Bowl 55 matchup was determined the night of January 24, Kansas City’s odds to win were as short as -186. Tampa Bay’s odds, on the other hand, were as long as +156. But with many bettors opting to wait until Super Bowl Sunday to lock in their bets, we’re seeing the moneyline (odds to win the Super Bowl) shift.

The Super Bowl odds have been steadily moving in Tampa Bay’s favor since opening. On Friday, February 5, the Buccaneers’ odds were at an average of +143, while the Chiefs’ odds were listed at -164. The odds have continued moving in that direction, as Tampa Bay is now as short as +138. You can find them as long as +140 still at BetMGM.

Kansas City’s odds are now as long as -157, but are still listed as short as -164 at some sportsbooks. Compared to their opening odds of -186, the Chiefs’ odds have now shifted 29 cents against them.

If you are a Chiefs moneyline bettor who hasn’t locked in their money yet, you played this perfectly. If you wanted to bet the Buccaneers on the moneyline, you’re probably kicking yourself knowing what their odds were at opening.

Late Money Coming in on Buccaneers to Win

While the moneyline odds are shifting towards Tampa Bay, the spread has held strong at Kansas City -3 for the last ten days. With three being such a significant number in NFL spread betting, it’s not surprising that we haven’t seen much of a shift here.

It’s also not surprising to see the moneyline shifting while the spread stays the same in a game like this. If you like the Buccaneers today, it makes sense to forego taking the three points and just bet them to win for a better price. The moneyline shift today signals that many members of the public are thinking this way.

We’ve also seen our third seven-figure wager come in on the Super Bowl, as a bettor laid $1 million on Tampa Bay to win at +135 odds last night. So obviously some sharps are thinking the same way too.

Is Now the Time to Pounce on Chiefs?

If you like the Chiefs and don’t want to lay the three points, it’s hard to imagine you getting a much better line than what’s available right now. So take the -157 odds at DraftKings while you can.

It’s also promising to see the weather has cleared up in Tampa Bay and we’ll have near perfect weather for the game tonight. A wet, windy game would have harmed Kansas City more, in my opinion.

However, know that the team who wins the Super Bowl almost always covers the spread as well. I’ve laid the three points with Kansas City. But I do appreciate that some might fear a push.
