49ers’ Super Bowl Odds Listed at +900 After Taking Kinlaw and Aiyuk in First-Round of NFL Draft
- The San Francisco 49ers added two first-round picks in defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and wideout Brandon Aiyuk
- The 49ers did a good job of replacing veterans (DeForest Buckner and Emmanuel Sanders) that they lost in the offseason
- The 49ers might have the best defense in the NFL and should have a premier offense if their young receivers can deliver. But does that make them a good bet to win Super Bowl 55?
The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books. One of the teams that helped themselves the most was the San Francisco 49ers, who ended up bolstering their NFC Championship roster with two first-round picks. Their 2021 Super Bowl odds are now at +900 after the first round. Are they worth a look at this price?

49ers End Up With Two Aiyuk, Kinlaw
The 49ers did a really good job of maneuvering in the 2020 NFL Draft. They traded away defensive tackle DeForest Buckner for the Indianapolis Colts first-round pick and then used the No. 14 pick in the draft to select his replacement in Javon Kinlaw. The 49ers actually moved one spot back from No. 13 and acquired a fourth-round pick.

Later in the first round, the 49ers used that fourth-round pick along with their own fourth-round pick to move up and nab wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Remember that the team lost Emmanuel Sanders in free agency and has a gaping hole at the position. Aiyuk was one of the best after-the-catch receivers in the draft and will be a new weapon for Kyle Shanahan to work with.
Are the 49ers Better?
The 49ers might not necessarily be better but they’re definitely not worse. It’s always hard to maintain success in the NFL because good teams develop their players and then have to pay them big bucks. Few teams operate proactively but that’s what we’ve seen from the 49ers here.
It was already written …4 years old!! So excited to be a part of the @49ers organization! #faithful pic.twitter.com/frt7u94To3

On defense, they’ve definitely downgraded from Buckner, one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL, to Kinlaw, a rookie, but Kinlaw has plenty of upside and could be an impact player right away. On offense, the 49ers really didn’t get the mileage they thought they would have out of Sanders. Aiyuk could be an immediate upgrade.
The good news is the swap from Buckner to Kinlaw is basically the biggest change on defense, which means one of the best units in the NFL shouldn’t experience much of a drop-off. On offense, there’s some upside depending on how quickly Aiyuk adapts to the NFL.
What’s the Best Bet?
You really have to give the 49ers credit here because this is a team that won 13 games last year and probably won’t be far off that number in 2020. They won the NFC last season and after returning the same roster virtually intact, their Super Bowl window is wide open.

My main concerns with this team are minor as we’re not sure how good this young, inexperienced receiving corps will be. They only have two healthy receivers right now with Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne. However, there is huge upside here as Samuel was a first-round pick last year and Aiyuk was a first-rounder this year.
The team also has Marquise Goodwin, who might contribute, and Dante Pettis and Jalen Hurd, who two young players that have flashed some potential. On defense, this unit is the best in the NFC. I think there’s some value betting them at +900 as they’re a very sound squad overall.
