Patrick Mahomes Rush and Passing TD Props

We’ve identified four Super Bowl game props for the quarterbacks, who should each feature heavily in the big game, particularly Patrick Mahomes, fresh off being named 2023 NFL MVP. I’ve already said that shouldn’t be a curse for the game’s current best player.

Andy Reid claims his pivot is fully healthy from a high ankle sprain suffered in the Divisional Playoff against the Jaguars on January 21. However, these types of injuries usually take months for a player to be declared 100%.

That doesn’t mean Mahomes can’t be effective: clearly hobbled, he still lit the Bengals up for 326 yards passing and a two scores, as a straight-up pocket passer.

Even before the injury, though, he was not running much: Mahomes has crossed this rush total just twice in the last eight games. He has had more than three carries in a game in that span twice.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been activated, so thebackfield rotation of Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon (more on him below) is intact. Mahomes’ scrambling will be more to sidestep pressure, and pass to open guys downfield.

That bleeds right into the next Mahomes prop: regaining some mobility will be crucial for him to avoid Philly’s league-best pass rush. He’s tossed at least two majors 13 times this season, including in five of the last six. I expect him to cruise past this total in the Chiefs vs Eagles player props.

Jalen Hurts Passing and TD Scoring Props

Unlike Mahomes, who is simply on another plane, Jalen Hurts needs to be a runner for his team to be effective. A shoulder injury cost him two games late in the season and is still lingering, with the Eagles clearly protecting him down the stretch.

However, it’s the Super Bowl, and the 3rd-year pro will likely let it all hang out. We should see plenty of the dual-threat QB that helped the Eagles become the 3rd-highest scoring team in the league (28.1 points per game).

That renewed run game should take away from Hurts’ passing attack, which has been tame of late already. He’s crossed this passing total just once in the last five contests. He hasn’t thrown for more than 154 yards in a game in these playoffs.

That being said, the guy is a goal line magnet, and basically automatic with Philly players push-push-pushing him as he takes the plunge. He’s had running scores in both playoff games, and has a whopping 15 rush TD’s on the year.

McKinnon & Gainwell Rush and Receiving Props

McKinnon has gradually been phased out of the run game as he’s rushed for just 26 yards on 15 carries in the playoffs. In the final three games of the year, he had nine total carries for 17 yards.

That trend shouldn’t change, but his current two-game TD drought should, as McKinnon served as a touchdown dynamo for KC at the end of the year, hitting paydirt in six straight games.

We’ll end with change-of-pace back Kenneth Gainwell, who has run for 160 yards and a score in two playoff games this season. However, we’re opting to focus on his low receiving prop, needing just 10 yards to win this leg.

This is more of a wager on Kansas City struggling with pass-catching backs, ranking 28th in DVOA defending those players. In these playoffs, Joe Mixon had three catches for 15 yards, and Travis Etienne added three grabs for 18 yards.

Gainwell had 26 yards receiving against the 49ers in the NFC Championship, and he’s crossed this total four times in his last eight games — with two of those games ending with nine yards.
