  • Broncos open as 1.5 point favorites against the Browns in their Week 9 contest in Denver
  • Both teams have grossly underachieved after key offseason acquisitions including wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for Cleveland and quarterback Joe Flacco for the Broncos
  • Will anything change the sway of the spread leading up to this pivotal Week 9 affair for both franchises?

The Cleveland Browns (2-5) will head west in Week 9 for a matchup versus the Denver Broncos (2-6) at Empower Field at Mile High in Colorado’s capital city on Sunday (Nov. 3rd, 4:25 PM ET).

Even with Denver’s abysmal record thus far this season, expect “Broncos Country” to fill the stands with a sea of Broncos’ Orange and Blue as both teams look to kick-start their climb back to .500.

Denver opened as a 1.5 point favorite in the Browns vs Broncos odds.

Matchup of Struggling Teams

Both the Browns and Broncos suffered road losses in Week 8. Cleveland hit the showers after a 27-13 loss on the road to the dominant New England Patriots (8-0) at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Meanwhile, Denver’s hearts were crushed yet again following a 15-13 defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts (5-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy.

Adam Vinatieri won the game with sweet redemption after drilling a 51-yard field goal with just 22 seconds left in the contest. Vinatieri’s yin-yang season has been defined by four missed extra points as well as clutch FGs. His game-winning kick on Sunday lifted the Colts to first place in the AFC South. For the Broncos, the loss dropped them to last place in the AFC West.

Broncos Favored to Get Back on Track

The spread opened with the Browns as underdogs at 1.5. Cleveland’s star-studded offensive weapons consisting of QB Baker Mayfield, WR Odell Beckham, Jr. and running back Nick Chubb haven’t panned out to be a winning combination just yet this season. Will that change this coming Sunday against the beleaguered Broncos?

Denver’s defense continues to keep them in football games, but their offense has been inept. The Broncos’ defensive unit currently ranks fourth in the league allowing just 304.5 yards per game of total offense thus far in their 2019 campaign.

Unfortunately, the offense has sputtered. They have been in a handful of games lost by late field goals by the opposition and have the 2-6 record to show for it.

Flacco finally showed his anger correlated to the lack of aggressive play-calling on offense for the Broncos. It’s about time, Joe. Denver doesn’t need Flacco to be a boisterous guy, and that’s not his personality. However, the entire team needed to hear this from their offensive leader moving forward.

Will the Line Move Leading Up to the Game?

I wouldn’t count on the line moving much leading up to Sunday’s battle in the Mile High City.

With the Broncos solidified as favorites, there’s no reason to think the spread will change during the week. If you’re betting for the Browns to win, and believe they’ll win by at least two points, that’s a very safe bet. Denver has lost three games this season by two points, but not by a mere one point.

With Cleveland’s offense still awaiting a complete breakout, and the Broncos fourth-ranked defense looming, expect Denver to cover the spread.

My Pick: Broncos -1.5 (-105)
