  • The Dallas Cowboys take a four-game win streak into Foxborough when they meet the New England Patriots this Sunday (October 17th)
  • The Cowboys kept their winning streak alive by beating the New York Giants 44-20 last Sunday

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys (4-1) travel to Foxboro, Massachusetts for a clash with the New England Patriots (2-3) Sunday. The kick-off from Gillette Stadium is scheduled for 4:25 pm ET on CBS. In terms of weather, mild temperatures in the low 60s with minimal wind and no precipitation are expected.

Dallas boat-raced the New York Giants 44-20 last week behind a 302-yard passing day from Dak Prescott. Not to be outdone, Ezekiel Elliott ran for another 110 yards in the beating as the Giants had no answers for the Cowboys’ offense. As far as the Patriots, it took all four quarters but they took down the Houston Texans 25-22 in a hard-to-watch game.

The look-ahead line for this one was Dallas +1.5, but oddsmakers adjusted that to Cowboys -3.5 after Week 5. A ridiculous 83% of the early wagers have come in on Dallas so far, but the line hasn’t budged. As for the total, it has been bet up from 48.5 to 51.

The Dallas Cowboys

It sounds crazy to say but the Dallas Cowboys might actually be a wagon. We had suspicions on opening night when they came close to taking out the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Four wins later, it’s starting to look like this is no fluke at all. The Cowboys are good.

While Dallas has the fourth best offense (DVOA) in the NFL, it’s their defense that is behind their early season success. After being a sieve for the past few years, it seems like they have finally gotten things together. Ranking in the top-10 in both run and pass defense (DVOA) seemed like a pipe dream last year, but has turned into a reality this season.

The New England Patriots

The mighty have certainly fallen as the Tom Brady-less Patriots are staring 2-3 right in the face after Week 5. Things could be looking up though as Mac Jones has looked extremely good so far in his rookie campaign. He may have a thing going with Hunter Henry as the two hooked up for another touchdown against the Houston Texans.

The Patriots got out to a very slow start against the Texans but that was to be expected. They were coming off of a very emotional game with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week before. It’s hard to get up for a team like the Texans (1-4) after playing the GOAT. Still, the Patriots were able to settle in for a less than comfortable 25-22 road win over Houston.

They will definitely need a better start this week against Dallas.

Cowboys vs Patriots Best Bet

When looking at the Patriots’ schedule, it’s hard to imagine them keeping this one closer than 3.5 points. Sure they hung with the Buccaneers but that game was played in the pouring rain and Tom Brady missed more than a couple throws he would have otherwise made. That game script could have been one that had the Patriots playing from multiple touchdowns behind which would have changed everything.

This week I think the Cowboys will be able to assert their will and put up points early. There’s no rain to level the playing field this time. Mac Jones has looked good so far but the New England offense isn’t even close to what Dallas is bringing. I like the Cowboys to win this one easily.
