Rams, Cowboys Have Plenty To Prove
Both the Rams and the Cowboys return to action for the 2020 NFL season with plenty to prove. Los Angeles took a step back last season after making their first Super Bowl appearance in 17 years following the 2018 campaign, falling out of the playoff picture with a 9-7 record.

Pegged as 2-point underdogs in the opening Cowboys vs Rams odds, Los Angeles played its way out of postseason contention with losses in two of its three final games last season, a run that featured a lopsided 44-21 loss in Dallas as 1-point favorites in Week 15. With that defeat, the Rams also saw a two-game SU and against the spread win streak against Dallas come to a close.
Rams Enjoy SNF Win Streak
The Rams proved to be steady performers on home turf as last season progressed. Los Angeles claimed SU victory in four of its final five dates at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, while going 3-1-1 ATS, to finish the campaign with a 5-3 SU record at home. The Rams also impressed in three appearances on Sunday Night Football last season, going 3-0 SU and ATS including a pair of home victories. However, the team has regularly come up short as a home underdog, 0-7 SU and 0-6-1 ATS in their past seven, while averaging a meagre 14.7 points per game.
Jalen Ramsey and the LA Rams have agreed to terms on a massive extension that totally resets the cornerback market. The 5 year $105M extension averages $21M per year and is the largest contract signed by a cornerback.

Winners in each of their past three season openers, the Rams hit the gridiron for Sunday’s contest with no major injuries. However, Jalen Ramsey is likely to be kept busy after the Rams cornerback signed an historic five-year, $105 million deal that marks the most lucrative deal ever given to a defensive back.
Riding the OVER
The Cowboys have regularly piled up points in recent dates with Los Angeles. With last year’s late-season win, Dallas has now averaged 32.5 points per game over its past six meetings with the Rams. That has contributed to the current 4-0 run for the OVER when these two teams meet, and the steady climb in the total for Sunday night’s matchup, which now sits at 51.5 after opening at 50.5.

Dallas opens up the season as -139 road favorites after emerging as one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL last season. The Cowboys’ victory over Los Angeles was one of just three they mustered in the second half of the season, as they limped to an 8-8 finish, and out of playoff contention for the seventh time in 10 years.
Cowboys Look To End Road Woes
The road proved to be particularly unkind to the Cowboys in 2019, with the team going 3-5, with their three victories coming against lightweight opponents Detroit, Washington, and the New York Giants.

Complicating matters further for Dallas is the team’s dismal record in past appearances on Sunday Night Football. In addition to going winless SU in three previous SNF appearances in Week 1, all on the road, the Cowboys have gone 2-4 SU in their past six overall appearances. However, all six of those games were settled by a single possession, with two of Dallas’ losses coming in overtime, adding value to the +1000 odds of Sunday’s clash needing the extra frame to be decided.
Cooper, Ramsey a Key Matchup
Among the most intriguing matchups on Sunday night will be the clash between Ramsey and Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper. Inked to a massive five-year, $100 million contract during the offseason, Cooper racked up a career high 1,189 receiving yards and eight scoring catches last season.

However, Cooper was hobbled by a hamstring injury that forced him to miss practice earlier in the week. The five-year veteran has also been a non-factor in two previous appearances against the Rams, and made just one catch for 19 yards in last season’s blowout win over Los Angeles.
Best Bets: Rams to win (+123); OVER 51.5 (-110)
