  • The New York Jets saw a “significant” jump in their average Super Bowl 53 odds, going from +15000 to +11100
  • When the dust settled, they had jumped the Dolphins and Bills for second-best odds in the AFC East
  • Is this the Jets’ year?! (Prepare for more sarcasm)

You can count The Jeffersons as New York Jets fans, as Gang Green is movin’ on up.

40-year-old references aside, it’s good news for one of New York’s teams. Vegas has apparently seen enough out of Sam Darnold and company to give their average Super Bowl 53 odds a nice little bump, ahead of two division rivals, no less.

Average Super Bowl 53 Odds for AFC East Teams

The New England Patriots didn’t move in the latest update. They’re still standing strong at +600. Boring. But the Jets shot all the way up from +15000 to +11100 on August 27.

As you can see from the graph, this is going to be an awfully tight race for the AFC East.

Jets leaving Bills and Dolphins in Super Bowl dust

New York passed the Miami Dolphins, who actually went from +11900 to +11600, and the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately for the Bills, the snapping of their playoff drought last year didn’t do much for this season.

The more the public has seen of their quarterback situation, the longer their odds have gotten. Buffalo has gone from +8900 (July 16) to +11200 (August 4) and have finally settled at +13900 – the longest odds in the NFL.

New York is clearly ready to contend for (second-best in) the AFC East. We can also confidently state that Teddy Bridgewater is better than AJ McCarron, and that Sam Darnold is clearly miles ahead of Josh Allen. Darnold’s father Josh McCown must be very proud.

It’s only a matter of time before Ryan Tannehill gives up on his quarterbacking dream to go back to his roots and become the WR1 for the Jets.

Also … this is unstoppable.

Jets breathing down favorites’ necks in Super Bowl 53 odds

Not only did the Jets surpass the Bills and Dolphins, but they really closed the gap between them and the top five Super Bowl 53 contenders.

The Steelers better hope Le’Veon Bell isn’t too rusty when he finally reports, as the Jets are completely within striking distance.

And I doubt there’s any way the Vikings defense can properly prepare for the aerial onslaught coming in Week 7 when they see Darnold and the Jets.

Then we come back to the Pats. They have the unenviable task of facing future seven-time Super Bowl champion Sam Darnold twice this season. They sweep that season series? Now we’re really talking about a new Super Bowl favorite.

Super Bowl 53 Odds

Team 2017 Record Super Bowl 53 Odds
New England Patriots 13-3 +650
Los Angeles Rams 11-5 +850
Philadelphia Eagles 13-3 +950
Minnesota Vikings 13-3 +950
Pittsburgh Steelers 13-3 +1000
New York Jets 5-11 +10000

As for the Rams and Eagles? They’re breathing a little easier. They get to sit back and watch the carnage unfold as future six-time MVP Sam Darnold runs amok of the league.

Betting the Jets to win Super Bowl 53 is not a good idea

Alright, so we hope you picked up on our sarcastic tones earlier. Do not bet the Jets to win Super Bowl 53.

With all due respect to the Jets, it’s going to be a tough season. They have a growing core of young players, a signal-caller to finally bring hope, and the potential for a ball-hawking secondary. While they may not be Super Bowl contenders this year, they’ll gain valuable experience.

And they’ll be ready for that day, whenever it is, that Tom Brady retires.

They are so much of a longshot it has sparked some interest in crazy events that are more likely than the Jets winning Super Bowl 53.

Have fun with these:

Prop Odds
Jalen Ramsey ‘accidentally’ tells Blake Bortles he sucks 1/1
Jon Gruden and Mark Davis get different haircuts 5/1
Tom Brady’s body coach Alex Guerrero becomes head of NFL health and Safety committee 19/1
Jimmy Garoppolo dates Tila Tequila, becomes flat-Earther 66/1
Colts fire Frank Reich following 2018; hire Josh McDaniels 99/1
Seahawks use long-snapper regularly to delay pass rush getting to Russell Wilson 99/1

An Underdog you can bet to win Super Bowl 53

If you’re looking for a legit underdog to throw your cash behind, consider Baltimore. The Ravens at +4000 offer pretty good value, especially considering the drama surrounding Le’Veon Bell and Ben Roethlisberger’s battle to stay healthy.

In the NFC, with the volatile nature of the South, it may be the Panthers’ turn to at least win the division. If you want to go deeper, at +5000 the Lions are at least an interesting follow if things break their way in the North.

One day, though, the Jets will have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. And Sam Darnold will finally bring the McCown family a ring. And they can do this to get the confetti out of their hair:

Like father, like son.
