  • The Dolphins have posted a 3-4 record against the spread this season
  • Miami is 3-0 head-to-head against the Jets over the last three meetings
  • Combined, the Dolphins and Jets have one win heading into Week 9

Two of the NFL’s worst teams will square off on Sunday with the Miami Dolphins (0-7, 3-4 ATS) hosting the New York Jets (1-6, 2-5 ATS) as 3-point underdogs.

The Dolphins enter Week 9 still in search of their first victory, posting a dismal 0-7 record to this point. The Jets haven’t been much better, going into action on Sunday at 1-6 this season.

Oddsmakers updated their Jets vs Dolphins odds after the Fins were competitive in a 27-14 loss to the Steelers on Monday Night Football. The spread now shows New York as just a 3-point favorite.

Is there value betting on the winless Dolphins at +3 (-114)?

New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
New York Jets -3 (-106) -155 O 41 (-110)
Miami Dolphins +3 (-114) +135 U 41 (-110)

Odds taken October 29

The spread for this matchup has already seen tremendous movement. On October 23, the Dolphins opened as +6.5 underdogs, but the line shortened throughout the week, moving to 4.5 and eventually to its current spot.

Betting on the Dolphins usually means you’re getting a lot more than a field goal. The shortest spread they’ve faced in their first seven games is 6.0 (at home versus Washington in Week 6).

While the Dolphins have yet to win a game going into Week 9, the club has actually been decent against the spread through seven games. The Dolphins are 3-4 ATS, but that includes a 2-1 mark on the road and 1-3 ATS record at home.

Dolphins Are Historically Bad

The Dolphins have just been bad all round this season, averaging a league-worst 34 points against per game going into their Week 9 matchup versus the Jets. On the other side of the ball, Miami is putting up just 11 points per game, which also ranks last in the NFL. The Jets are averaging 11.1.

Sunday’s game between these AFC East Division rivals will likely be a low-scoring affair based on the offensive numbers to this point.

New York’s 209.6 yards per game average is a league worst, but Miami is not far behind at 254.6 YDS/G (second-worst).

If you’re wondering about the Jets’ performance ATS this season, it hasn’t been pretty. Through seven games, New York has only covered twice — once on the road. They were 21-point ‘dogs at New England in Week 3 and managed to lose by a mere 16 points thanks to New England backup Jarrett Stidham throwing a pick-six.

Dolphins Are Unbeaten vs Jets Over Last Three Games

Looking at the head-to-head matchup, the Dolphins own a perfect 3-0 record over the last three regular-season meetings.

Their last matchup in November of 2018 resulted in a 13-6 win for the Dolphins. With both clubs struggling offensively, we could see a similar scoreline this Sunday.

Some sportsbooks have set the total points to 41, but it should be noted that five of Miami’s last six games have resulted in Unders.

Perhaps the best value in this game comes in the moneyline, where the Dolphins have a +135 price tag. Yes, Miami is 0-7 SU this season and 0-10 in that same category over the last 10 games. However, the Jets are also abysmal straight up, posting a 1-9 record over their last 10.

This game could go either way, meaning there’s more moneyline value on the Dolphins.

Given that I am taking Miami straight-up, I also see the Dolphins as the better ATS option. Don’t expect the line to change much — maybe half a point either way. But look for the Dolphins to cover on home field and move to 4-4 ATS this season.

Pick: Miami Dolphins (+3, -114)
