Indianapolis Colts Betting Trends

Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts followed up the loss to Tennessee with a 34-27 victory at home against Jacksonville. Without the services of all-pro running back Jonathan Taylor, who missed last week with an injured ankle, the Colts have evolved into more of a pass-first offense under Matt Ryan.

Ryan looked like a man reborn last week, passing for 389 yards and 3 touchdowns last week in his best game of the season. For the first time all year, the Colts finished a football game without allowing a sack, or turning the ball over. Ryan tossed a 32-yard pass to rookie receiver Alec Pierce with just 17 seconds left on the clock to deliver the Colts the victory.

In Colts injury news, star running back Jonathan Taylor is set to return after missing the past two weeks. Also, running back Nyheim Hines is still working through concussion protocol and may miss this week’s contest.

The betting trends by no means favor the Colts this week, as Indianapolis is 0-4 against the spread in their last four games versus Tennessee. Additionally, the favorite is 14-6 against the spread in the teams’ last 20 meetings overall.

Tennessee Titans Betting Trends

Two-time defending AFC South champion Tennessee sit atop the division after 6 weeks despite an 0-2 start. Mike Vrabel’s team will be looking for a fourth straight victory at home on Sunday.

Despite the presence of running back Derrick Henry, the Titans have struggled to score thus far in 2022. Ryan Tannehill has been his usual efficient self with 965 yards passing and a 6-3 touchdown to interception ratio so far. However, Tennessee’s offense have failed to stay on the field when it matters most. The Titans rank just 25th in third-down conversion rate at 35.6%. Additionally, Tennessee’s offense ranks just 29th in EPA per play outside of the red zone.

Should the Titans wish to win the AFC South for a third straight year, their offense will need to improve drastically.

Despite that, Tennessee is the NFL’s best red zone team, converting on a league-high 92.3% of drives that enter the opponents’ red zone. Additionally, Ryan Tannehill owns the NFL’s best passer rating in the red area. Tannehill has completed 13 of 16 passes for 100 yards with five touchdowns and zero interceptions this season. Clearly, the ability to run the football with bruising back Derrick Henry is a game-changer for the Titans in the red zone.

That being said, Mike Vrabel’s defense has been an area of concern this season. Tennessee’s defense is surrendering an average of 390 yards per game. Moreover, the Titans’ defense ranks dead last in the league against the pass, giving up an average of over 287 yards per game. Backing the favorite in an always fiery AFC south contest is an extremely risky proposition.

Indianapolis Colts vs Tennessee Titans Best Bet

All of the betting trends favor the under here. The Colts’ last six road games have hit the under, while the Titans’ last four games on grass have all gone under as well. Ultimately, points will be at a premium in a divisional match-up between two teams who struggle to score the ball. Take the under here.
