  • Sportsbooks have posted a Bosa Brother sack prop.
  • Currently Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers leads his younger brother Nick of the San Francisco 49ers in the odds.
  • How effective will the brothers be this season for their respective teams?

Joey Bosa finished the 2016 NFL season as the Defensive Rookie of the Year, but looking back, one could suggest that his defensive class wasn’t quite as deep.

Aside from the never-ending Kyler Murray-Josh Rosen headlines that led up to last Thursday’s draft, the story of the class was the defense.

It was a very deep first round, meaning young Nick may not match his brother’s 2016 accolade, but he absolutely could match or better his sack total in 2019. Speaking of which, sportsbooks have delivered another gem for the season ahead.

2019 Sack Total Odds

Player Most Sacks Odds
Joey Bosa -200
Nick Bosa +160

Who’s the Better Bosa?

When it comes to Joey, his resume thus far is pretty decent. However, while it looks nice from a distance, it’s not all it could’ve been.

While Bosa has delivered an impressive 28.5 sacks through 35 career games (0.81 sacks per game), he’s already missed 13 tilts in just three years.

In his first season, it was due to a contract holdout, something that’s doubtful with Nick and the Niners, but these Bosa’s can be a stubborn bunch.

Then, last year, he missed nine games with injury. So while he has been really good, he has had the chance to be really great.

Nick, on the other hand, has that opportunity now with a lot more going for him too. You see Joey was a little behind the eight ball when he walked into the Chargers’ locker room as a rookie.

He was the new guy on an aging line that wasn’t very dominant. The pro there is that Joey could easily stand out. The con was he had to be the guy that brought the pressure week in and week out.

Flip the script ahead a few years and with a more built defensive line in place in San Francisco for Nick, he’ll have a much better chance of capitalizing on half sacks and the backfield scraps opened up by his colleagues.

Who’s the Better Bet?

If Joey can stay healthy, it’s hard not to like the situation in Los Angeles. That team gets the gift of facing cinderblock foot Joe Flacco twice a year and the ongoing question mark that is the Raiders offense two times as well.

It won’t be quite as easy for Nick having to chase down two of the fastest mobile QB’s in the game.

It won’t be quite as easy for Nick having to chase down two of the fastest mobile QB’s in the game in Russell Wilson and now Kyler Murray in the NFC West.

With all that said, though, you’d be crazy not to take a chance on Nick Bosa. As mentioned, his supporting cast should be more dynamic, his 49ers are slated for a big bounce back season and his brother Joey’s longevity seems to be a bit of a question mark.
