  • The Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens meet in Baltimore, Maryland at 1:00 pm ET on Sunday, October 17th
  • Both teams are coming off wild wins in Week 5 where both scored multiple touchdowns in the 4th quarter to come away with the win
  • See the odds, spread, analysis, and best prop bets, below

Two one-loss teams will get together Sunday afternoon when the Los Angeles Chargers (4-1) and Baltimore Ravens (4-1) get together at M&T Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET on CBS. Temperatures in the upper 50s are expected with no rain but 16 mph winds will be howling.

The Chargers come into this one off of a wild 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns last week. Both teams combined for 41 points in the fourth quarter. Baltimore had a similar situation but they scored 16 of the 19 fourth quarter points in their 31-25 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts Monday night.

The Ravens are three-point favorites in this one after opening there earlier this week. Meanwhile the total is sitting at 52 at most shops at the time of publishing. As always, there are plenty of player props to consider and that is what we will talk about here.

  • At the time of writing, Mike Williams’ status for this game is still up in the air so many props for the running backs, wide receivers and tight ends have not yet been released.

Justin Herbert is Really Really Good

For whatever reason, coming out of the 2020 NFL Draft the Los Angeles Chargers weren’t being praised for taking Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick. It took a team doctor puncturing Tyrod Taylor’s lung just to get him on the field in Week 2 of his rookie year. But when he got on the field, he made a fool out of the analyst that said he “could be the biggest mistake of the draft”.

Not only was he not the biggest mistake, he might be the best pick of the 2020 NFL draft class.

Anyone that has seen Justin Herbert play this season knows he’s special. He’s averaging over 300 yards per game and he is the engine that drives the 4-1 Chargers. He has a cannon for an arm and that will come in handy Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens obviously feature Lamar Jackson who is absolutely raking this season. There is a very good chance the Ravens hang points on the Chargers given they have the ninth-best offense (DVOA) in the NFL at the moment. They can run and they can throw. They’ve scored at least 23 points in four of the five games they’ve played this season.

While the Ravens’ offense is flying, the defense isn’t what we’ve become accustomed to seeing from them. They’re coming off of a game where they gave up 402 passing yards to Carson Wentz. Whenever the Chargers start chasing points in this one, they will likely find success. If and when that happens, Herbert will throw for 300+ yards.

  • The Pick: Justin Herbert Over 289.5 passing yards (-115) wager 0.115 units to win 0.1 unit
  • SBR 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 6-9, -3.60 Units

Who Scores?

Touchdown props make the world go around. Can you live without them? Probably, but your NFL Sunday experience would definitely take a hit. There’s no feeling like watching a guy you bet at plus money find his way into the end zone.

This week, we can get two guys at plus money and both have a shot at scoring. Even if just one gets home, we still turn a profit.

No defense in the NFL has seen more targets go to the tight end position than the Baltimore Ravens. It’s where teams like to attack them and that works in our favor Sunday afternoon. So far this season, the Chargers have targeted their tight ends six times in the red zone with four coming from inside the 10-yard line.

I like one or both of the Charger’s tight ends to score this Sunday.

  • Pick: Jared Cook – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+190) – Wager 0.1 unit to win 0.19 units
  • Pick: Donald Parham – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+350) – Wager 0.1 unit to win 0.35 units
  • SBR 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 5-10, -0.345 units
