Surprises At Each Position For Round 1

Taking a look back to Round 1, these odds surely didn’t play out by the book. We didn’t have too many stunning things happen in the first round but these favorites definitely didn’t cash as expected. While Tua Tagovailoa was, in fact, the second quarterback off the board, there were plenty of surprises at the other positions.

CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy were co-favorites to be the first receiver off the board at -110 but it was actually Henry Ruggs III whose name was called first. At running back D’Andre Swift was expected to be first at -175 but Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the only running back drafted in Round 1. He was at +500.

In terms of the offensive linemen, Jedrick Wills was expected to go first at -110 and Tristan Wirfs was second in line at +155. However, it was Andrew Thomas who went first. He was +425. As you can see, a lot of underdogs cashed with these props as the general managers had different outlooks than the mock drafts.

Favorites For Round 2

Taking a look at the board for Round 2,  D’Andre Swift is again favored to go first among running backs but now he’s at -225. Jalen Hurts (-120) is listed as the first quarterback, Denzel Mims and Michael Pittman Jr (+225) are tied to be first receiver.

On defense, Xavier McKinney (-200) is favored to be the first safety while Yetur Gross-Matos is favored to be the first defensive end.

What Are The Best Bets?

From the chalk, Xavier McKinney is my best bet. Many people thought he’d be a first-round pick; in the second round, he offers tremendous value at this point. He’s going to go long before guys like Jeremy Chinn and the oft-injured Antoine Winfield Jr., in my opinion.

With the running backs, I think we probably see Swift go next, but I wouldn’t put it past teams to go in another direction. Swift to the Miami Dolphins makes sense at No. 39 but I’m not interested in laying -225 with this prop.

With the wide receivers, I think there’s value with Mims at +225. Almost all mock drafts and experts have Michael Pittman Jr. going after him.

I’d also place a bet on A.J. Epensa at +200 to go first at edge rusher. Some people had him as a late first-rounder. He should be the next edge rusher to hear his name called.

I’d probably avoid the quarterbacks prop. I think the jury is out on who teams have next; some might like Hurts while others might prefer the measurables and arm strength of Jacob Eason. That to me is more of a coin toss than the odds suggest. I’d avoid that prop and stick with the others.
