Don’t expect to see Aaron Rodgers lead more fourth quarter comebacks like he did against the Bears

The QB is taking it one day at a time after injuring his left knee during Week 1

Odds have been released on how many fourth quarter comebacks Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will have in the 2018 season.

The odds clearly suggest Rodgers will only have one fourth quarter comeback in the 2018 season. It’s worth looking back at his past comebacks over the years to get a sense of context.

Aaron Rodgers Week 1 Performance

Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season concluded Sunday night with a NFC North division clash featuring Mitch Trubisky’s Chicago Bears and Rodgers’ Green Bay  Packers.

This was Rodgers first game back in action since breaking his collarbone in Week 8 of the 2017 season.  The Green Bay faithful remember Rodgers’ 2014 MVP season was a comeback season from a similar injury in the 2013.

The game started with the Bears defense consistently pressuring Rodgers, which lead the Bears to scoring ten unanswered points. Then Packers fans worst fear happened.

Rodgers was carted off the field, in what looked like a bad knee injury.

Deshone Kizer entered the game, threw a pick six and was stripped of the ball by Khalil Mack by halftime. The boos rained down at Lambeau Field as the Packers’ season looked over before it even started.

However, in epic fashion, Rodgers returned from injury in the second half throwing three TD’s in the fourth to lead the Green Bay Packers past the Chicago Bears.

Rodgers capped the night off with this 75-yard catch and run to Randall Cobb.

This was Aaron Rodgers 11th career fourth quarter comeback, and will easily go down as one of his gutsiest  performances ever.

Don’t Expect Any More 4th Quarter Magic from Aaron Rodgers

Pick: 1  fourth quarter comeback (- 200)

The likelihood of Rodgers having another fourth quarter comeback is low. We currently do not know the extent of Rodgers’ knee injury and his status for Week 2 is still undecided.

Rodgers now has a higher likelihood to miss games this season. Add that with the probability that Rodgers has a sprained ligament or cartilage tear and his chances of re-injury are likely.

In the 4th quarter the Packers spread the Bears defense out and allowed Rodgers to pick apart the coverage with his pinpoint accuracy. I’d expect the Packers to continue with this game plan to keep the pass rush away from his injured knee.

If Rodgers does play a full or near full season I would expect the Packers to be competitive in all games and not have to bank on Rodgers pulling off another 4th quarter comeback.

Rodgers has only had three seasons in his 11 seasons where he has had more then one fourth quarter comeback and I’d expect that trend to continue in the 2018 season.
