  • The NFL has suspended Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon indefinitely for violating the league’s substance abuse and performance-enhancing drug (PED) policies
  • It’s the fifth time that Gordon has incurred a drug-related suspension from the league
  • Books are offering a prop wager on what’s next in the career of the veteran wideout

Josh Gordon was suspended on Tuesday, which while sad, is not surprising. There seem to be three constants every NFL season: people foolishly write off the New England Patriots, the Dallas Cowboys underachieve, and Gordon gets suspended from the league.

This is Gordon’s fifth NFL suspension. All of the enforced sitdowns were for violating the league’s substance abuse and performance-enhancing drug (PED) policies.

People are wondering if this is the last straw for Gordon’s NFL career, and books are out with a prop wager on that subject. They’re offering odds on what’s going to be the next destination in Gordon’s career.

Odds Which League Josh Gordon Plays in Next

Outcome Odds
None of the leagues +100
XFL +200
NFL +500
CFL +900

Odds taken on Dec. 17. Gordon must be signed with a league by Dec. 31 or the winner will be none of the leagues.

Are his NFL playing days over? Will he be jumping to the newly reformed XFL? Could the CFL be a possibility? Or is football done with Gordon?

All of these outcomes are possible wagering options.

Gordon’s Sad Story

Gordon looked set for great things ahead when he led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards with the Cleveland Browns in 2013, his second season in the league. He did so despite missing two games under suspension for having codeine present in his system.

Drug abuse quickly took his promising career off the rails.

In six seasons since 2013, Gordon has played a total of 33 games. He’s been under suspension five times in eight years.

This is the second season in a row that’s seen the league issue an indefinite suspension to the veteran receiver. Last December, he was handed an indefinite sitdown while playing for the New England Patriots.

The NFL opted to reinstate Gordon in August. Following his release from the Patriots last month, the Seahawks ended up claiming Gordon on waivers.

Between 2014-18, multiple suspensions limited the receiver to just 11 games. He was out for two entire seasons while suspended.

A League of His Own?

The NFL has yet to make a public statement regarding Gordon’s latest suspension. There is always the possibility that his multiple infractions could lead to a lifetime ban.

As far as other football options, the XFL could prove to be a real possibility for Gordon’s next football destination. XFL founder Vince McMahon, also the head of the WWE, showed with the first go-round of the XFL in 2001 that he likes to bring wrestling-style storylines and bad-boy villain characters into play.

Gordon would fit that mold.

The Toronto Argonauts hold Gordon’s negotiating rights in the CFL. When he was previously under suspension while with the Browns, Gordon gave serious consideration to playing in the CFL.

The Likely Outcome

If he maintains any hope of returning to the NFL, he probably isn’t going anywhere other than a rehab clinic. He needs to (again) show the league that he’s willing to try and do what’s necessary to get his life back in order.

Considering there’s a two-week window of opportunity attached to this wager – Gordon must join a new time by December 31 – the most logical play is none of the leagues.

Pick: None of the leagues (+100)
