  • The Pittsburgh Steelers are seven-point home favorites to beat their cross-state rivals the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday
  • Sunday betting record: 0-0 ML; 0-0 ATS; 1-0 O/U; +0.90 units
  • Philadelphia is 5-1 against the spread in the last six games against Pittsburgh

The battle of the Keystone State features rival division leaders. However, scratch below the surface and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ lead in the AFC North is much more impressive than the advantage held by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.

Coming off an inadvertent bye week after their Week 4 opponents the Tennessee Titans were inflicted with a COVID-19 outbreak, Pittsburgh is an impressive 3-0. After an upset victory over the injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles lead the NFC East (or is that the NFC Least?) at 1-2-1.

Sunday, when the Eagles arrive at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field, they’ll be greeted by a small band of hostile Steelers fans. Pennsylvania has eased its COVID-19 restrictions and 5,500 socially-distanced spectators will be admitted to the game.

Pittsburgh will take the field as seven-point home favorites in the Eagles vs Steelers odds.

How Good Are These Steelers?

Pittsburgh is seeking to open the season 4-0 for the first time since 1979, when they went on to beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. Four times since the Steelers have come into Week 4 with a 3-0 record and lost.

The Steelers have fashioned their perfect slate by beating the 0-4 New York Giants, the 1-3 Denver Broncos (who’ve only beaten the 0-4 New York Jets) and the 0-4 Houston Texans, who just fired head coach Bill O’Brien.

So not exactly running the gauntlet of contenders.

However, that situation doesn’t figure to change in Week 4. The Eagles aren’t resembling a championship-caliber outfit, either.

Big Ben vs Wentz

Back after missing most of last season with an elbow injury, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger looks like his old self. He’s tossed seven touchdown passes against one interception and posted a career-high 105.2 passer rating.

The Eagles lead the NFL with 17 sacks but beyond that are a terrible pass defense. Philly is 17th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (243.5).

The opposition passer rating against the Eagles this season is 100.0 . And that’s been complied by a guy who just got benched (Dwayne Haskins), a rookie (Joe Burrow), a second-stringer (Nick Mullens) and a third-stringer (CJ Beathard).

Eagles QB Carson Wentz is feeling the heat and with good reason. His passer rating is a dismal 66.9. With seven picks in four games, he’s already matched his season totals for each of the past three years.

It won’t get any easier for Wentz this week as he deals an opportunistic Pittsburgh defense (five takeaways) with a ferocious pass rush.

Injury Updates

The Eagles are hurting at wide receiver. DeSean Jackson (hamstring) and Alshon Jeffery (thumb) are out for the Eagles. Rookie Jalen Reagor (foot) is on IR. Starting right cornerback Avonte Maddox (ankle) is also out.

Pittsburgh isn’t missing a single starter. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson (concussion) is back after being in concussion protocol during Week 3.

Trend Spotting

The Eagles are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games against the Steelers. As well, Philadelphia is 12-5 straight up in the last 15 meetings with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers, though, have won three of the last four game and five of the last seven games played at Pittsburgh. The total has also gone under in four of the last five Steelers-Eagles games.

Pick: Under 44.5 (-110).
