  • The NFC South can be clinched when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football in Week 15
  • Things are simple here, if Tampa Bay wins, they are NFC South Champs for 2021

The New Orleans Saints (6-7) will do everything in their power to stop the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-3) from clinching the AFC South on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff from Raymond James Stadium is scheduled for 8:20pm ET on NBC. Glorious weather is expected with temperatures in the 70s, light wind and no precipitation to speak of.

The Saints are coming into this one on three wheels as head coach Sean Payton is out with Covid. There is a little hope though as they are coming off of a 30-9 win over the New York Jets last week. Meanwhile the Buccaneers have now won four straight after beating the Buffalo Bills 33-27 last week and appear to be headed to the playoffs once again.

The current odds are showing the Buccaneers as 11.5-point favorites although that number could get even bigger as the day goes on. The total is resting at 45.5 which seems fair for these two squads. As always, there are plenty of player props to consider which is what we’ll do here.

Taysom Time

Sean Payton has Covid so he won’t be around to coach the Saints Sunday night but that may not matter. Taysom Hill will still be under center and at the end of the day, that’s the guy we’re betting on. I’d feel better if Payton was there calling plays for his prized pupil, but it is what it is.

At the end of the day, we could only need one play to hit our bet Sunday night.

Hill is the definition of a wild card at the quarterback position. Nobody really knows why the Saints have kept him around for so long but we really can’t deny the guy is electric when starting. He’s not much of a passer, but he can run like the wind blows kind of like Forest Gump.

Taysom Hill has started two straight games now and the Saints have won one of them. Us bettors really don’t care about that though. We care more about the fact that he’s run for at least 73 yards in both games. The guy can flat out move.

Now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers present a unique challenge since no team has allowed fewer rushing yards to opposing running backs this season. That would scare a lot of people but not us because we know that doesn’t matter. Tampa Bay has given up the fifth most rushing yards to opposing quarterbacks so they can stop the RBs all they want. Taysom plays quarterback.

We don’t need a huge night from Hill to get home on this number and despite Tampa’s stout run defense, he should be able to cash for us.

  • The Pick: Taysom Hill Over 41.5 rushing yards (-115) – Wager 1.15 units to win 1 unit
  • SBD 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 27-28, -0.12 Units

Who Scores?

No prime time NFL card is complete until it has a touchdown scorer prop on it. That’s just a big ole fact people. With most props, you can get an idea if they are still alive or dead but with a TD scorer, you have no idea. They are almost never dead.

The one I like the most tonight is the one for a guy who might be the best to ever do it at the tight end position.

Rob Gronkowski can still play. He may have retired for a year or so but when Tom Brady came calling, he came running. You would too so don’t act like you wouldn’t. Gronkowski isn’t just mailing the regular season in either, he’s already caught six touchdowns this season in only eight games played.

The Saints aren’t exactly a team that gives up a lot to the tight ends (or any position) but we’re talking Gronkowski here. He’s caught half of the touchdowns the Dallas Cowboys have allowed to the tight end position this season and four of the seven the Atlanta Falcons have given up to tight ends. Basically we can throw out the stats and forget that the Saints have only allowed three touchdowns to tight ends so far in 2021.

Given how good the Saints are against the run, it seems likely that Gronkowski will have upside in the red zone Sunday night.

  • Pick: Rob Gronkowski – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+125): Wager 1 unit to win 1.25 units
  • SBD 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 20-34, -2.36 units
