It doesn’t happen often, but there is a must-watch Monday Night Football game in Week 13. The Minnesota Vikings travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks in a battle of two of the NFL’s hottest teams. Both teams have won seven of their past eight and are in the hunt for not only a playoff spot, but also a first round bye.

Minnesota Vikings vs Seattle Seahawks Odds

Team Spread Total
Minnesota Vikings +2.5 (-110) Over 49.5 (-110)
Seattle Seahawks -2.5 (-110) Under 49.5 (-110)

Odds taken Nov. 24

Seattle opened as a short home favorite in the Week 13 odds, and is in the midst of a 3-0 run against the spread. Surprisingly, both of their losses this season have come at Century Link Field, while they’re one of only two teams yet to lose away from home. That trend continued in Week 12, as they went in to Philly and won as a short road favorite.

Flipping the Switch

The Seahawks usually rely on Russell Wilson and the offense to outscore teams, but Sunday against the Eagles it was the defense that led the way. They sacked Carson Wentz three times and forced five turnovers, while limiting Philly to just three points for the first 59 minutes of the game.

The offense was sloppy, committing 12 penalties and botching multiple scoring opportunities, and Wilson looked nothing like an MVP candidate. He completed just 52% of his passes for 200 yards, and was held to a single touchdown pass. Seattle did get a huge boost from an unlikely source, as backup running back Rashaad Penny rushed for a career-high 129 yards and a score.

The fact they won despite an off day from Wilson has to be encouraging. He’s basically been a one-man show all season, and when they face stiffer competition like the Vikings in the future, they’re going to need production from every layer of their team.

Comeback Kids

The last time we saw the Vikings in Week 11, they were pulling off one of the greatest comebacks in franchise history against the Broncos. They became the first team in five years to win a game they were trailing by 20 or more points at the half, and they did so on the back of Kirk Cousins.

Minnesota’s QB was 29-of-35, for 319 yards and three touchdowns. Since Week 4, he leads the NFL with a sparkling 18-1 TD-to-INT ratio and he’s on the cusp of joining the MVP conversation.

Before you go racing to the window to bet the Vikings, there are reasons to be cautious. They’ve defeated only one team that currently occupies a playoff spot, and the combined winning percentage of the teams they’ve beaten is only .367.

Which Way Will the Line Move?

Considering the Seahawks are one of the most heavily bet public teams from week to week, it would be shocking if this line didn’t get to -3. Traditionally, Seattle has one of the biggest home field advantages in the league, and Minnesota struggles versus good teams away from home. In the Kirk Cousins era, the Vikings have zero wins outdoors, on the road versus teams with an above .500 record.
