  • The Seattle Seahawks fell to 5-2 following their loss to the Baltimore Ravens
  • They currently sit fifth in the NFC, controlling a Wild Card spot
  • Despite a long road to the Super Bowl, is there a chance the Seahawks make it?

While it hasn’t been a banner year for the Seattle Seahawks, it hasn’t been terrible either.

Russell Wilson is an MVP candidate and they’re in the thick of the playoff picture in the NFC.

But a disappointing loss to the Ravens was their second at home this year. And while they’re in a playoff spot, they’d have to take the longest route possible through the NFC to get to the Super Bowl.

Regardless, could the Seahawks find themselves in Miami come February?

Ahead of Week 7, Seattle had the eighth best odds to win Super Bowl 54 according to our Super Bowl odds tracker. The odds have enjoyed two jumps: a big one on September 30, and a smaller one on October 14.

After Lamar Jackson and the Ravens stole one in Seattle though, things are less kind. They sit 12th among contenders, and their path through the NFC is a lot harder.

Seattle Seahawks Must Keep Pace in NFC West

Right now all Seattle can do is keep up with the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.

While they didn’t look great in a rain-soaked win in Washington, San Fran sits atop the NFC. Seattle has lost twice, but they also have the advantage of a late bye. The Niners had theirs Week 4.

Seahawks Remaining Schedule

Week Opponent Current Record
Week 8 @ Atlanta Falcons 1-6
Week 9 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-4
Week 10 @ San Francisco 49ers 6-0
Week 11 BYE N/A
Week 12 @ Philadelphia Eagles 3-4
Week 13 vs Minnesota Vikings 5-2
Week 14 @ Los Angeles Rams 4-3
Week 15 @ Carolina Panthers 4-2
Week 16 vs Arizona Cardinals 3-3-1
Week 17 vs San Francisco 49ers 6-0

There are four key match-ups remaining for Seattle. Two against San Fran, one against the Vikings, and one against the Rams. They should be 7-2 heading into Week 10. The 49ers host the Panthers and then travel to Arizona.

At worst San Francisco should be 7-1. And a loss in that Week 10 showdown likely crushes Seattle’s division dreams.

Seahawks Hold Wild Card Spot

In the event they lose one (or both) of those games against San Francisco, the Seahawks have to keep hold of a Wild Card spot.

Right now they have the inside track on fifth place, setting up a four/five match-up. But things only get harder from here.

NFC Playoff Picture

Current NFC Seed Team Record Remaining Opponent Win % Entering Week 8
1 San Francisco 49ers 6-0 .623
2 Green Bay Packers 6-1 .517
3 New Orleans Saints 6-1 .491
4 Dallas Cowboys 4-3 .534
Wild Card 1 Seattle Seahawks 5-2 .585
Wild Card 2 Minnesota Vikings 5-2 .500
N/A Carolina Panthers 4-2 .574
N/A Los Angeles Rams 4-3 .533

Entering Week 8, the Seahawks have the fifth-hardest remaining schedule based on winning percentage.

San Fran faces a slightly harder path, but those two head-to-head games become key.

Seattle also faces the three teams closest to them in the Wild Card picture from weeks 13-15. And while the Seahawks are fairly settled, there are three question marks awaiting them. What’s Adam Thielen’s status, which Todd Gurley shows up, and will Cam Newton be under center?

Can Seattle Make it to Super Bowl 54?

At this point, the Seattle Seahawks are a very risky play.

Of the Vikings/Rams/Panthers trifecta, the first two are a toss-up. And with the last two on the road, there’s a possibility they finish that stretch 1-2.

If they get stuck in a Wild Card spot, just two NFC West teams have ever played on Wild Card Weekend and made the NFC Championship. None have won made the Super Bowl.

The key is winning the NFC West. We’d recommend waiting to see what happens between now and Week 10 to make sure that game has divisional implications.
