With apologies to Jerry Maguire, we’re going to show you the Super Bowl moneyline and how it works.

Looking at the current Super Bowl 57 moneyline, it’s the Philadelphia Eagles who sports betting sites are listing as the favorite in the big game over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Maybe that’s a good thing for the Eagles, and maybe it’s not. Moneyline favorites are 4-2 in the past six Super Bowl games. This is Philadelphia’s fourth Super Bowl appearance. The Eagles have only been the moneyline favorite in one Super Bowl, in 1981 against the Oakland Raiders. Philly lost 27-10.

Meanwhile, Kansas City is in the Super Bowl for the fifth time. The Chiefs were moneyline underdogs twice previously. In the first Super Bowl, they were drubbed 35-10 by the Green Bay Packers. However, in Super Bowl 4, KC was a convincing 23-7 victor over the heavily-favored Minnesota Vikings.

Among all the ways to bet on the Super Bowl, the moneyline is about as straightforward a wager to understand as you’ll find. What is the moneyline and how does it work? In the following story, we’ll explain all of that in simple-to-follow terminology.

What Is the Moneyline?

When looking at how to bet on the Super Bowl, the moneyline is a straight win bet on the outcome of the game. All the team you bet has to do is win the game. It doesn’t matter if the final score is 21-17 or 35-10. As long as the team you bet is the winner, your bet will cash. In terms of easy Super Bowl bets, this is about as simple as it gets.

In last year’s game, the Los Angeles Rams were -200 in the moneyline. The Cincinnati Bengals were +170.

What do those numbers mean? The moneyline is factored based on a wager of $100. At a line of +170, that means if you bet $100 on the Bengals to win and they did, the profit payout on your wager would be $170.

The positive number indicates the underdog. A negative number is assigned to the betting favorite.

The calculation on the favorite is done a bit differently than the math for the underdog. the -200 wager on the Rams indicates how much you’d need to wager in order to realize a $100 profit on your bet. In this case, that amount would be $200.

Figuring the equation in another manner, at odds of -200, the Rams were given an implied probability of victory of 66.67%. Meanwhile, at +170, there was an implied probability of 37.04% that the Bengals would be winning the game.

What Is the Moneyline for the Super Bowl?

Oddsmakers at US betting sites are anticipating that this year’s big game will be a much closer contest. In the Super Bowl odds, the Eagles are set as the -125 favorite in the moneyline. That works out to an implied probability (IP) of victory of 55.56%. Meanwhile, bettors who play the moneyline on the underdog Chiefs will get an IP of victory on them of 48.78% at their moneyline of +105.

Each of these teams have proven to be excellent moneyline bets during the 2022-23 NFL season. Both the Eagles and Chiefs are 16-3 on the moneyline.

How Do I Make a Bet on the Super Bowl Moneyline?

The moneyline is among the best options of how to bet on the Super Bowl if you’re new to sports betting. Once you’ve placed your bet, all you need to monitor is whether the team upon which you’ve wagered ends up winning the game. If they win, you win.
