  • The St Louis Blues are -185 road favorites over the New Jersey Devils in an NHL afternoon game slated for Sunday, March 6
  • New Jersey has won the past two meetings between the teams
  • St Louis is 5-1 straight up in the club’s last six visits to New Jersey

The St Louis Blues didn’t enjoy their trip to the Empire State.

Perhaps as they move on to face the New Jersey Devils, the Garden State will prove to be more bountiful.

That certainly has been the case in recent years. Over the last six road games against the Devils, St Louis shows five wins. New Jersey hasn’t won at home against the Blues since a 7-1 rout on Jan. 21, 2014.

However, more recent history is displaying that the details favor the Devils. New Jersey has won two in a row from the Blues. That’s including a 7-4 verdict at St Louis on Feb. 10.

Nonetheless the oddsmakers are favoring the Blues at -185 in the betting line on this game. St Louis is 1-2 straight up on its current four-game road trip.

Third in the Central Division, the Blues are well-positioned in the NHL playoff bracket.

Devils forward Jack Hughes saw his six-game point streak halted in Friday’s 3-1 loss to the Rangers. Forward Nico Hischier has collected 13 points (8-5) in the past 11 games.

The Devils have scored a goal in the opening minute of a contest five times this season. That leads the NHL.

Injuries Impacting Devils Netminders

New Jersey goaltenders Mackenzie Blackwood and Jonathan Bernier are both on IR with lower-body injuries.

Also on IR for the Devils are forwards Tyce Thompson (upper body) and Janne Kuokkanen (wrist). Forward Miles Wood (right hip) is out indefinitely after undergoing November surgery.

Blues defensemen Marco Scandella (lower body) and Scott Perunovich (upper body) are both on the shelf.

Husso’s Turn For Blues

The Blues have alternated netminders the past five games. Jordan Binnington took the loss on Saturday on Long Island.

That puts Ville Husso back between the pipes to face the Devils.

Husso is 10-2-1 since the start of the new year. He’s showing a 1.96 GAA, a .934 save percentage, and one shutout in that span. Husso is an outside contender in the Vezina Trophy odds.

Blues vs Devils Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Blues Ville Husso 13-4-2 .931 2.13
Devils Nico Daws 3-3-0 .909 2.83

Rookie Nico Daws got the starting nod in New Jersey’s 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Friday. He’s started four of the past five games.

The Devils appear ready to ride Daws the rest of the way and see if he can be part of their future. He’s 2-2 over those four starts with a .928 save percentage and 2.53 GAA.

Blues vs Devils Pick & Prediction

It was a fruitless stretch for the Blues in New York but New Jersey has certainly been a rewarding locale for them in recent seasons. St Louis hasn’t lost at New Jersey in over eight years. The Blues also haven’t lost three games in a row since early November.

The Devils are 1-6 straight up in their past seven home games.

Pick: St Louis Blues ML (-185)
