The St. Louis Blues are heating up. The defending Stanley Cup champs won their second consecutive game against Vancouver on Monday to even up their playoff series 2-2. Ryan O’ Reilly (2) and Alex Pietrangelo scored to lead the Blues to a 3-1 Game 4 victory.

Game 5 is set for Wednesday, August 19 at 10:30 PM at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The Blues have opened as -150 favorites in the Game 5 Canucks vs Blues odds.

Will the Blues keep rolling in Game 5 or should you bet on the Canucks rebounding?

Canucks vs Blues Game 5 Odds

Team Moneyline Puckline Total at DraftKings
Vancouver Canucks +130 +1.5 (-215) O 5.5 (+114)
St. Louis Blues -150 -1.5 (+175) U 5.5 (-139)

Odds as of August 17

The Blues have been favorites for every game in this series, including being listed at -139 odds for Game 4. Their -150 value for Game 5 is the heaviest they’ve been favored since Game 1 when they opened at the same value.

Blues Have Found Their Game

It took some time, but the St. Louis Blues are finally starting to look like the Western Conference powerhouse that won the Stanley Cup in 2019. St. Louis was winless in their first five games in the Edmonton bubble, but they’ve now won back-to-back games and scored six goals in that span.

The Blues have been better than the Canucks at 5-on-5 since the start of this series, and now they have the results to show for it. The Canucks’ power play has been their calling card this series, but they went 0-7 in Game 4 while the Blues’ man advantage went 2-for-5.

One key move made by the Blues in this series was backup goalie Jake Allen taking over for starter Jordan Binnington in Game 3. Binnington was getting exploited by this talented Canucks squad, but Allen has been fantastic and stopped 61 of 64 shots in Games 3 & 4.

O’Reilly In Conn Smythe Form

Bo Horvat was incredible for the Canucks in the first two games, but Ryan O’Reilly is starting to take over this series for St. Louis. The Blues’ elite two-way centreman, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy during the team’s cup run in 2019, is on a three-game point streak (3G, 3A) and has been shutting down the Canucks’ top two lines at even-strength.

Captain Alex Pietrangelo is another player who was a key member of the championship team that has found another gear this postseason. Pietrangelo has a goal and four assists in this series and is logging around 25 minutes of ice time every night.

The Canucks have plenty of youthful talent, but they’ve been outworked over the past two games. They need a spark for Game 5, and that could come by inserting the speedy Adam Gaudette into the lineup for his series debut. This Vancouver team was one shot away from going up 3-0 in the series and is too talented to go down without a fight.

What’s the Best Bet?

With how momentum works in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Game 4 was close to a must-win for the Canucks. The Blues have regained their confidence and are showing why they are a feared playoff opponent. They’ve outshot Vancouver in all four games thus far and are now getting strong goaltending from Allen.

I do think the Canucks have the talent and motivation to rebound in Game 5, but the Blues are tough to bet against given their recent playoff history and current momentum. Either way, I think this series is going seven games, and it’s a toss-up which team will come out on top in Game 5.

Instead of looking to the moneyline, the best value for Game 5 comes with the total. Jake Allen has been sensational through two games, while Jacob Markstrom is due for a big performance after allowing nine goals in the last three games. Take the ‘Under’ and expect a very tight and hard-fought Game 5 between these two clubs.

Pick: Under 5.5 (-139)
