The Vegas Golden Knights will have a chance to eliminate the Vancouver Canucks when the two teams faceoff in Game 5 on Tuesday, September 1st at 9:45 PM EST in Edmonton.

With a commanding 3-1 series lead, the Golden Knights have opened as heavy -235 favorites in the Game 5 Canucks vs Golden Knights odds. The Canucks are being given +197 underdog odds.

Will the Golden Knights eliminate the Canucks in Game 5 or should you bet on Vancouver forcing Game 6?

The Golden Knights odds for Game 5 are the shortest they’ve been in any game this series. They were -225 favorites for Game 4.

Flower Rises to Occasion In Game 4

The Golden Knights gave starting goalie Robin Lehner a night off in the second half of a back-to-back in Game 4. Marc-Andre Fleury, despite not having played for 15 days, stopped 28 of 31 shots to help lead his team to a 5-3 victory.

Vegas’ explosive offense continued to roll in Game 4, with Max Pacioretty (2), William Karlsson, Chandler Stephenson and Nate Schmidt all scoring in the victory. The Canucks got goals from Tyler Toffoli, Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat in a losing cause.

Vancouver goalie Jacob Markstrom has faced the most shots out of any goalie in these playoffs, and it appears that fatigue may be setting in. Markstrom allowed five goals on 33 shots in Game 4 and is now 1-3 with a .894 save percentage and 3.99 GAA in this series.

Knights Are Simply the Better Team

The Canucks bounced back well in Game 4 after getting shutout in Game 3, but it simply wasn’t enough against this Vegas powerhouse. The Golden Knights are a very deep team that have been getting contributions from all over their lineup. That depth really showed in the second half of this back-to-back when it was clear they had the fresher legs in the third period.

The Knights have out-chanced and outshot Vancouver in every game they’ve played in this series. In Vancouver’s lone victory, the Canucks got an outstanding performance from Markstrom. It’s hard to bet on Markstrom rising to that level again when you consider the absurd amount of rubber he’s faced in this compressed return-to-play format.

The Canucks are a very talented and upcoming team, but they’ve run into the likely Western Conference finalist. The Golden Knights are the favorites in the 2020 Stanley Cup odds for a reason. They lead the playoffs in Corsi (58.97 CF%), Fenwick (61.00 FF%) and High-Danger Chances (59.46 HDCF%).

Bet Vegas to Close Out Series

The Canucks won’t be going down without a fight, but it’s tough to bet against this Vegas team given the level they’re playing at. Not only are they now 11-2-1 all-time against Vancouver, but they’ve lost just four total games since mid-February. Vancouver will put up another strong effort in Game 5, but will it be enough?

The Golden Knights are going to close out this series in five or six games. Markstrom is the primary reason Vancouver could steal one more game in this series, but that’s no guarantee when you consider the fatigue possibility. The Golden Knights have so many talented scorers in their lineup that’s it’s safe to bet on someone from this team stepping up and propelling the team into the next round Tuesday.

If you feel Vancouver has what it takes to keep this game close, taking them on the puckline at -137 odds isn’t a bad play, but I’m rolling with this Vegas powerhouse on the moneyline.
