The New Jersey Devils are the only team heading into action on Thursday night that have yet to record at least one win this season.

The Devils will get a chance to break that goose egg when they host their Metropolitan Division rivals, the New York Rangers.

The Devils are listed -1.5 on the puckline puckline with opening odds of +220. Will the Devils finally be able to record a win and also snap their 0-6 skid against the spread this season?

In order to shake things up, the Devils made a coaching move on Wednesday that will see assistant general manager Tom Fitzgerald behind the bench as an associate coach.

Devils Have Struggled from the Season Opener

It’s been ugly from the get-go for the Devils, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead in their season opener before losing 5-4 in a shootout to the Jets. It was a loss that New Jersey really hasn’t been able to recover from heading into action against the Rangers.

What has been New Jersey’s issue six games into the season? Surprisingly, goal scoring.

Taylor Hall has netted one goal during that span, while 2019 first-overall draft pick Jack Hughes has yet to even record a point.

New Jersey has only generated 13 goals in six games, which isn’t terrible, but have also allowed 29 for a league-worst goal differential of -16.

Rangers Have Been Better Than Devils Head to Head

This is the first meeting between these two teams since April of last season when the Devils skated away with a 4-2 win on home ice. However, the head-to-head matchup has favored the Rangers over the last three meetings, as New York has won two of those games.

The Rangers are dealing with more injuries than the Devils heading into the game, with forwards Chris Kreider (lower body) and Mika Zibanejad (flu) both listed as probable for Thursday’s matchup.

Zibanejad has been lights out in three games, scoring four goals and eight points during that stretch.

If you’re playing the moneyline straight up, there isn’t a whole lot of value on either team at minus odds. The Devils come in as the -106 favorites, with the Rangers listed at -104.

The Devils are 0-6 straight up in their last six games, so they may not be the most attractive moneyline bet for Thursday night.
