Two teams desperate to get their seasons on track square off Tuesday between Pacific Division rivals Anaheim and San Jose. The Ducks are in the basement with a 2-6-1 record, while the Sharks have just one more point, as they’re 3-8-0.

Scoring could be at a minimum, as these two squads are also the two worst teams in the NHL when it comes to goals per contest, with San Jose bringing up the rear. The Ducks have also allowed the third most goals per game in the league. To say these two teams are struggling would be a massive understatement.

Unsurprisingly, with both teams playing so poorly in the first month of the campaign, their Stanley Cup odds see them both as massive longshots. The Sharks are -139 favorites in this contest that features a total of 6 goals.

Puck drop is set for 10:30 pm ET at Sap Center in San Jose, CA with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage in the States.

Anaheim Ducks Betting Analysis

After winning their first game of the season, the Ducks then dropped seven straight and it appeared to be eight – until they erased a 3-1 third-period deficit to defeat the Maple Leafs in overtime on Sunday.

That momentary bright spot was much needed, as the Ducks have scored the second-fewest goals (20), and allowed the third most (38). It would hardly be a shocker to note that they also sport both the second-worst power play and penalty kill.

All is not lost with the team, at least. 2019 ninth-overall pick Trevor Zegras has picked off where he left off after last year’s solid first full NHL season, leading Anaheim with six goals. Troy Terry, who had a breakout 67-point season, has continued his great form, with ten points in nine contests. Other than those two, no player has more than five points, however.

San Jose Sharks Betting Analysis

There’s no other way to slice it – the Sharks started the season off in brutal fashion, falling in regulation in their first five games (the first two of which were played in Prague). Since then, they’ve been a decent team, alternating wins and losses in their last six times lacing it up.

They’re 25th on the power play, which is no surprise, given that they’re last in goals per game (2.18). However, the penalty kill has been very effective, ranking third (93.8%). Timo Meier and Tomas Hertl, who were 1-2 on the team in goals and points last season, are both stuck on one goal apiece thus far.

San Jose has to be thrilled that two-time Norris Trophy-winning blueliner Erik Karlsson has regained his scoring touch. After not posting more than ten goals in his previous five seasons, he already has six, to go along with five assists. He’s second in points among all d-men in the league, and the Swede’s three game-winning goals are tied for the NHL high.

In their last seven meetings, the Ducks have won in six instances. Four of the five matchups in San Jose have gone the Ducks way.

Ducks vs Sharks Pick

The Ducks are expected to go with incumbent starter John Gibson between the pipes, with the Sharks starting their backup goalie Kaapo Kahkonen. He’s surrendered at least three goals in three of four starts. Gibson has given up at least three in four straight starts.

Ducks vs Sharks Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Anaheim Ducks Moneyline +114
Over 6 Goals -107
PARLAY ODDS  +320

Even though the Sharks are a -139 favorite, the decision to go with their backup goalie swings this more towards a pick’em contest. With the Ducks having such success against the Sharks, the prudent play is to take the plus money for a seventh victory in the last eight meetings.

Pick: Anaheim Ducks Moneyline (+114), Over 6 goals (-107)
