  • The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Calgary Flames on Thursday, November 17th
  • Both the Flames and the Lightning have won two in a row heading into this matchup
  • We’ve got the Flames vs Lightning odds below, plus our best bet and prediction

It’s a rematch of the 2004 Stanley Cup Final. Ok, that was a long time ago, but the Flames and Lightning are once again strong contenders in the Stanley Cup odds and can meet there again this June. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, and first look forward to Thursday, November 17th when they meet at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

It hasn’t exactly been a banner start to the season for either side, especially the Flames, who are just 3-5-2 in their last 10 entering this one. Taking those struggles into mind, the Lightning are -135 moneyline favorites when they host the Flames.

The puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET with Sportsnet providing the broadcast coverage in Canada while Bally Sports Sun will carry the game in the United States. Let’s delve into the Flames vs Lightning odds a little more below while offering our best bet and pick for this game.

The over/under total for this contest is 6.5 goals. Both Jacob Markstrom and Andrei Vasilevskiy are widely regarded as two of the top goalies in the league and good bets in the Vezina Trophy odds, but at this point they both have save percentages under .900. On top of that, they are both allowing three or more goals per game, so it’s not the start either netminder can be proud of.

Calgary Flames Betting Outlook

After struggling offensively for a number of games, the Flames exploded for six goals against the Kings in their last outing and they needed every single one of them in a 6-5 win. That game marked the return of big off-season acquisition Jonathan Huberdeau, who had missed the previous three contests with a foot injury.

It hasn’t been the start Huberdeau envisioned in a Flames jersey following a career-high 115-point season that had him battling in the Hart Trophy odds throughout last year. The winger was able to find the back of the net in his return to the ice, for only his second goal of the season. Huberdeau has just seven points in 12 games this year.

Defense was supposed to be a strong point of this Flames team, especially after the addition of MacKenzie Weegar in the Huberdeau trade. However, they’re allowing 3.33 goals per game and sit a disappointing 22nd in the league in that category. It’s enough to drive head coach Darryl Sutter a little mad.

Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Analysis

Tampa’s offense has really exploded in the last two games with 11 goals in those wins. They’re scoring 3.38 goals per game so far this year, good for 11th in the league entering Wednesday night’s action. They’ll look to extend their winning streak to three against a Flames team that they’ve had a lot of recent success against.

Tampa has taken five out of the last six matchups between these two squads and hasn’t lost at home to Calgary in almost five years.

The Flames will have to watch out for a healthy Nikita Kucherov in the offensive zone. The former Hart Trophy winner played only 47 games last year and missed the entire regular season the year before that. With 23 points in 16 games, he might be a decent longshot bet in the Art Ross Trophy odds. That’s if you think there’s any chance Connor McDavid might slip.

One concern for the Bolts is their depth on the blue line. They lost Jan Rutta and Ryan McDonagh in the off-season and have a number of injuries they’re dealing with on the back end. Last game, Nick Perbix, Haydn Fleury and Phillipe Myers were all pressed into action with three of the regular rearguards out.

Flames vs Lightning Pick & Prediction

It’s been a home-heavy schedule for Calgary this year, but when they have been on the road, they haven’t fared well, winning just one of four contests away from their own arena. Although the Flames lost seven games in a row previous to this current two-game win streak, five of those defeats were by a single goal, so they’ve been in every game.

With a lack of veteran experience on the blueline for Tampa, we expect a pretty wide-open contest as we’ve seen from their last couple of games. In fact, the over is 6-1-1 in the Lightning’s last eight games overall.

The Flames also seem to be finding their offense and with Huberdeau returning and scoring last game, it gives us more assurance that the best bet in the Flames vs Lightning odds is to pick over 6.5 goals.

Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-105)
