It’s been a long time since the Colorado and the Philadelphia Flyers met on the ice. In fact, it was so long ago that COVID-19 wasn’t even on anyone’s radar. That was on February 1, 2020, when the Flyers posted a 6-3 home-ice victory over the Avalanche. The two clubs are meeting again in Philly on Monday and it’s the visiting Avs who are favored in the Avalanche vs Flyers odds.

Oddsmakers are setting up the Avalanche as -143 favorites. Colorado is 7-4 on the puck line over the past 11 games. Let’s take a look at the Avalanche vs Flyers odds on Monday night.

Avalanche vs Flyers NHL Betting Trends

Smacked around Sunday night by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Flyers have lost four in a row in regulation. Philly is a dismal 2-8-2 over the past 11 games.

They are 6-2 straight up in their last eight games when playing host to the Avalanche. Since the start of November the Flyers are 2-5-1 straight up at home.

12/11/19 Colorado 3 Philadelphia 1 COL COL Under
2/1/2020 Philadelphia 6 Colorado 3 PHI PHI Over

Colorado isn’t having the best time of it as the Avs enter Game 4 of a five-game road swing, going 1-1-1 thus far. They charged back from a 5-2 deficit, only to lose a 6-5 overtime verdict to the Senators Saturday in Ottawa. A 4-1 win at Montreal was sandwiched in between that setback and an 8-3 thrashing handed Colorado by the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Overall, though, the Avalanche are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Captain Gabriel Landeskog shows a team-leading seven points over the past five games.

Avalanche vs Flyers Injury Report

The Avalanche are absolutely riddled with injury. Defensemen Cale Makar (upper-body injury) and Bowen Byram (head injury), forward Nazem Kadri (lower-body injury and #1 goaltender Darcy Kuemper (upper-body injury) are all listed as day to day. Forward JT Compher (upper-body injury)  will be joining the squad in Philly but isn’t expected to suit up.

Philadelphia lists five players on IR – defenseman Ryan Ellis and forwards Samuel Morin, Ryan Fitzgerald, Tanner Laczynski and Patrick Brown. Forward Nate Thompson recently underwent shoulder surgery and is also out long term.

Lightning Strike Hart

Philadelphia goalie Carter Hart was chased from Sunday’s loss to the Lightning after he was beaten five times during the first two periods. That likely means Martin Jones will get the nod in this game.

Jones does have plenty of history playing the Avs from his Western Conference days with the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings. He’s 11-8-2 with a 3.23 GAA and .891 save percentage in 21 appearances against Colorado.

Avalanche vs Flyers Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Avalanche Jonas Johansson 3-2-1 .894 3.74
Flyers Martin Jones 3-3-1 .921 2.87

With it unlikely that Kuemper will be available, that likely leaves the Avs to go back to backup Jonas Johansson. He was chased in Saturdays’ 6-5 overtime loss at Ottawa in favor of recent recall Justus Annunen. There’s also a slim chance that Pavel Francouz gets recalled from his rehab assignment with the AHL Colorado Eagles for this game.

Avalanche vs Flyers Pick and Prediction

Total bettors take note – there’s been goals aplenty in recent games involving these teams. Colorado has scored five or more times in seven of the last 11 games. At the same time, the Avs have surrendered five or more goals four times in 12 games. The Flyers have allowed five or more goals in three of their last four games.

The Flyers are in a terrible funk and it isn’t showing any signs of going away. They’ve lost eight in a row and nine of 10. Even an understaffed bunch of Avalanche should be able to capitalize here.

Pick: Colorado Avalanche (-143).
