  • The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, October 18th
  • The Flyers are off to a surprising 2-0-0 start to the 2022-23 season
  • Check out all the Flyers vs Lightning odds below, including our best bet and prediction

It’s very early in the NHL season, but the records for both the Flyers and Lightning are probably the opposite of what we expected. New coach John Tortorella has his Philly squad off to a 2-0-0 start while the Lightning have stumbled to a 1-2-0 record in their first three games.

Nevertheless, oddsmakers aren’t expecting a surprise in this one as the Lightning are huge -275 moneyline favorites in the Tuesday NHL odds at home against a Philly team that finished last in the Metropolitan Division last year.

Puck drop for this game is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET at Amalie Arena in Tampa on Tuesday, October 18th. ESPN has the coverage for this one.

Let’s check out all the Flyers vs Lightning odds below and give you our pick and prediction for this game.

If your best bet is to pick Tampa on the moneyline, you won’t be getting a lot of bang for your buck, but as a -275 moneyline favorite they have an implied win probability of 73.33% to defeat the Flyers. The over/under total for this game has been set at six goals.

Tortorella’s Flyers Defying Odds Out of the Gate

Nobody expects much of anything from the Flyers this year, but if there’s one coach that can change the culture of a team with a snap of the finger, it’s John Tortorella. Some may view him as a bit of a tyrant, but Torts demands maximum effort and always makes sure his players are in tip-top shape or they won’t see the ice.

On Saturday, they came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2. The only team below them in the Eastern Conference Playoff odds are the Montreal Canadiens so that shows you how much the sportsbooks think of this team’s talent.

The Flyers are also missing a number of players who are expecting to be key contributors this season in Cam Atkinson, Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen, but still got two W’s to start the campaign.

Travis Konecny has led the way offensively with three goals from the first two contests, while off-season free-agent addition Tony DeAngelo leads the team in ice time and has notched three points.

Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Analysis

Playing in the Stanley Cup Finals three years in a row seems to be taking a toll on the Lightning off the hop. They’ve given up 11 goals in their first three games while dealing with some tough losses to their blue line in the summer.

Gone are Ryan McDonagh and Jan Ruuta, two regulars in the lineup last year. They may get some help back on defense for this one. Ian Cole has been reinstated by the NHL after they found no evidence against him in a sexual abuse probe. The veteran rearguard had to sit out the first three games of the season.

Although they’re dealing with injuries and continue to lose players every off-season, Tampa are still one of the top contenders in the Stanley Cup odds.

Having former Hart Trophy winner, Nikita Kucherov, healthy for the whole year will go a long way toward making sure they easily make the postseason again. Meanwhile, Steven Stamkos has picked up where he left off. After his first career 100-point season, the sniper has four goals in his first three games this year.

Over 6 Goals +102
Steven Stamkos Anytime Goal Scorer +128
PARLAY ODDS  +260

In five combined games this season, these teams have gone over the total three times. If you look at the last 10 times the Flyers and Lightning have faced each other, they’ve gone over the total in seven of those contests. Stamkos has netted seven times in his last 11 against Philly.

Flyers vs Lightning Pick & Prediction

While the Lightning should definitely win this one, it doesn’t make much sense to bet them on the moneyline given the juice in the Tuesday NHL odds. The orange doesn’t feel worth the squeeze here although Tampa has owned the Flyers in their most recent head-to-head matchups.

After getting spanked by the Penguins on Saturday, the Lightning should come out angry and ready to play in the first period, but this Flyers side has shown a lot of resolve early in this season.

Torts should have his visiting squad extra jacked to compete against the first team he coached in the NHL and the only one he has ever won a Stanley Cup with. While taking Tampa at home is the most logical pick, it’s probably not your best bet in the Flyers vs Lightning odds.

Instead, take the Flyers to keep it close. The NHL prediction here is to go with the Flyers on the puck line at -118.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers Puck Line +1.5 (-118)
