The San Jose Sharks continue the search for their first home win of the season when they host the Vegas Golden Knights in Tuesday night NHL action. The Sharks return home on the heels of Sunday’s 3-0 victory in Philadelphia, but have scored just five total goals while going winless in three home dates this season. Start time is set for 10:30pm ET at SAP Center at San Jose, with all the action televised on ESPN.

The Golden Knights arrive in San Jose perched as -177 road favorites, while the Sharks lag as +145 underdogs in the NHL odds. The total is pegged at 6.0, with the OVER emerging as a strengthening -124 wager.

Golden Knights vs Sharks Recent History

Tuesday night’s matchup marks the first of four scheduled meetings between these Pacific Division rivals. Vegas took two of three from the Sharks last season, including a 4-1 victory when they visited San Jose on February 20. Overall, the Golden Knights have dominated the Sharks while tallying wins in 12 of 14 clashes since October 2019.

VGK’s run vs SJS features a perfect 7-0-0 record in road dates, with the Sharks potting just eight total goals over that stretch. In addition sparking a steady 6-1 run for Vegas on the puckline, San Jose’s offensive woes when facing the Golden Knights on home ice have also contributed to a steady 5-1-1 run for the UNDER over that stretch.

Vegas Golden Knights Betting Outlook

The Golden Knights maintain their stingy ways in the early going of the campaign with Monday night’s victory, limiting the Leafs to just 23 shots on goal. With the tandem of Logan Thompson and Adin Hill exceeding expectations, the Golden Knights enter Tuesday perched atop the NHL team stats with a team goals against average of 2.00.

Vegas shooters have also been finding their groove, outshooting Toronto by a 33-23 margin on Tuesday after outshooting Colorado by a 35-25 margin Saturday’s 3-1 loss. All eyes were on Phil Kessel on Monday night as the veteran winger tied the NHL iron man record with his 989th consecutive game appearance. Kessel celebrated by setting up the first goal of the game. However, with limited ice time, the 35-year-old has managed to generate just two total assists this season, and is pegged as a -152 bet to not make the scoresheet on Tuesday night.

While their steady start is welcome, the Golden Knights must overcome their current struggles when playing the second half of games played on back-to-back nights. Vegas has lost six of its past seven including three straight on the road, while allowing four or more goals on six occasions over that stretch.

San Jose Sharks Betting Outlook

After opening their schedule with five straight defeats, the Sharks have shown signs of a turnaround while winning two of their past three. The club was outscored by a wide 19-8 overall margin during their five-game season-opening slide, but have tightened things up considerably, allowing just four total goals during their current 2-1-0 run.

The Sharks’ newfound defensive responsibility has not been accompanied by an offensive outburst. In fact, despite their recent positive results, the Sharks remain the lowest-scoring team in the NHL, potting just 1.88 goals per game. However, there are positives to note. Erik Karlsson has shown flashes of his youthful superstar form while scoring a team-high three goals and three assists.

In between the pipes, James Reimer has been solid, allowing just two total goals while earning the win in each of his past two outings. But things haven’t gone so well for Tuesday’s expected starter, Kaapo Kahkonen, who has been tagged for 10 total goals while losing his first three starts.

Golden Knights vs Sharks Prediction

The Golden Knights enjoy a golden opportunity to bust out offensively against a Sharks squad that has played responsible defense, which also faces big question marks on offense and in goal. The Sharks have scored first in six of their eight games to date, but with just eight total goals scored after the first period through their first eight games, look for them to quickly wear down against a sustained Vegas attack.

The Pick: Golden Knights -1.5 (+143)
