Odds taken Jan. 25th at DraftKings

Islanders vs Capitals

Barry Trotz will look to continue his winning ways against his former team when the Islanders and Capitals do battle at Capital One Arena on Tuesday. Trotz is 6-2-0 in his last eight games against Washington, including knocking them out in five games in the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Caps parted with the esteemed coach after he led them to a Stanley Cup in 2018.

While Trotz is the superior coach to Washington bench boss Peter Laviolette, you’ll also want to consider betting on the Isles due to the Capitals’ roster situation. Washington is currently without Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov,  Dmitri Orlov, and Ilya Samsonov due to COVID-19 protocols.

This is a great bounce-back spot for the Islanders, who will be turning to the red-hot Semyon Varlamov after falling 2-0 to the Devils with Ilya Sorokin in the crease Sunday.

Pick: Islanders Moneyline (-143)

Blackhawks vs Predators

There’s never a shortage of goal-scoring when the Blackhawks and Predators faceoff. The two Central Division foes will begin a two-game series with their first matchup of the season at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday. The Blackhawks are looking to earn a third straight victory after opening the year with four consecutive losses, while the Preds are on a three-game losing streak.

These are two of the worst defensive teams in the NHL, with Chicago allowing 3.83 goals per game and the Predators sporting a 3.40 GAA. There’s usually offensive fireworks whenever these teams clash, as four of the last six meetings have featured at least seven total goals.

Aside from lackluster goaltending, one key reason to bet on the trend continuing is the special teams matchup. Chicago brings its lethal second-ranked power-play unit with Patrick Kane and Alex Debrincat into this game to face a struggling Nashville penalty kill that ranks second-last in the league at just 55% efficiency.

Pick: Over 6 (-112)
