The Blackhawks are completely out of the playoff race, while Winnipeg still has a chance at the postseason, so the Jets are -135 moneyline favorites in this one giving them an implied win probability of 57.45%.

Jets Betting Analysis

The Jets come into their matchup with the Blackhawks sitting just six points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West with a quarter of the season left to play. They sit at +425 in the Western Conference Playoffs odds, and this game might play a hand in determining whether they are buyers or sellers at the Monday trade deadline.

You would think the players will put forth their best effort to convince General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, to keep the roster intact and maybe add a part or two for a playoff push. A loss to the lowly Blackhawks will do nothing to inspire confidence in the GM that this team has what it takes to make a serious Stanley Cup playoff run.

Winnipeg comes into this one on a day’s rest, meaning Connor Hellebuyck should once again get the start. The Jets’ netminder is way down in the Vezina Trophy odds this year after winning the award two years ago. Winnipeg is 4-0 in their last four games with a day of rest.

Blackhawks Betting Analysis

There has been no such thing as the friendly confines of home ice for the Blackhawks in the new year. They have won just five of 17 games at the United Center in the 2022 calendar year. Overall, their 11 home wins are fourth fewest in the league this season.

Recently, they’ve lost a couple low scoring affairs, but have given up 37 goals in their last 10 games. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to get the start, with all eyes on the potential return the Blackhawks might get at the deadline if they deal the three-time Stanley Cup champion and last year’s Vezina Trophy winner.

One positive aspect of the Blackhawks season has been the continued scoring exploits of Alex DeBrincat. His teammates will be looking to feed the diminutive sniper, who has an outside shot at 50 goals on the season and currently sits 6th in the Rocket Richard odds at +2500.

DeBrincat had the game winner in a 3-1 win when these two teams last met a month ago.

Jets vs Blackhawks Pick & Prediction

Winnipeg has everything to play for in this one as they try to make their case to the front office and the fans that they can still grab one of the last two Wild Card Playoff spots in the Western Conference. They should be all over a Chicago team that is on the second end of a back-to-back.

The Blackhawks are 0-5 in their last five games playing on no rest. The over also looks like a good value play in this one, although the Blackhawks last couple of games have been fairly low scoring. Winnipeg has found the back of the net 42 times in their last 10 games and should come out firing in this one.

Here are a couple other trends to take note of:

  • The Blackhawks are 0-4 in their last four Sunday games
  • The over is 8-2-1 in the Jets last 11 Sunday games
  • The Blackhawks have gone over the total in seven of their last 10 games

In the Sunday NHL odds, the over seems like a good pick here, but because of the impending trade deadline I feel the Jets are definitely the money play. The added factor of the Blackhawks being on a back-to-back makes the Jets at -135 on the moneyline the best bet.

Pick: Jets Moneyline (-135)
