The Edmonton Oilers are being listed as heavy favorites to even up their first-round North Division playoff series with the Winnipeg Jets. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday, May 21st at 9:00 PM EST and will be broadcasted on NBCSN.

The Jets and goalie Connor Hellebuyck found a way to shut down Oilers’ superstars Connor Mcdavid and Leon Draisaitl in Game 1. Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler led the charge for a Winnipeg offense that was missing two key players.

Can Winnipeg continue to shutdown McDavid and take a stranglehold of the series, or should you bet Edmonton to even things up?

Odds as of May 20th

Jets Stymie McDavid In Game 1

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were both held without a point in the Oilers’ 4-1 loss to the Jets in Game 1. This is something you don’t see often, as the two superstars finished 1-2 in the NHL scoring race during the regular season. Furthermore, McDavid had 22 points in nine games against the Jets in the regular season.

While McDavid dominated Winnipeg in the regular season, the Jets were able to hold him to only two shots on goal in 23:14 of ice time during Game 1. They’ll be hard pressed to shut him down for a second straight game, though. McDavid only went pointless in back-to-back games once all season. Not to mention, he and Draisaitl seem to explode the following game after being shutout.

If Winnipeg hopes to at least limit McDavid in Game 2, Hellebuyck will need another strong performance. The 2020 Vezina winner turned away 32 of 33 shots in Game 1 and is capable of stealing this series for the Jets. High-danger chances were 13-8 in favor of Edmonton in Game 1, which means the Oilers are getting their chances.

Ehlers, Dubois Injury Update

Winnipeg managed to win Game 1 despite missing two of its best players. Forwards Nikolaj Ehlers and Pierre-Luc Dubois were both unavailable in Game 1 due to injury. Ehlers is nursing an upper-body injury and missed the final nine games of the regular season, while Dubois didn’t play in the season finale due to an undisclosed issue.

Paul Maurice stated at practice Thursday that there’s a chance that both players could play in Game 2. He added that the past two days have been very good for them, and they’re both progressing. Ehlers was in a non-contact jersey at Thursday’s practice, while Dubois skated in a regular jersey.

These two players have a major impact on both Winnipeg’s chances in the series and their 2021 Stanley Cup odds. Ehlers tied for third on the team in scoring with 46 points in 47 games. Dubois, meanwhile, had eight goals and 12 assists in 41 games since being acquired from Columbus at the deadline.

Jets vs Oilers Game 2 Best Bet

The fact Winnipeg was able to beat Edmonton 4-1 in Game 1 without two of their top scorers speaks to their depth on offense. Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler both got on the board in Game 1 and can continue to step up if the other two guys remain out. The Oilers are very reliant on their top line, and often lose whenever McDavid and Draisaitl get shut down.

Hellebuyck is an elite talent, but McDavid exposed him countless times during the regular season. The Oilers outshot Winnipeg 33-21 in Game 1 and only got one power-play opportunity. It’s very rare for McDavid and Draisaitl to get shut down two games in a row, so the smart money is on them exploding in Game 2 and leading Edmonton to a big bounce-back win.

Pick: Oilers ML (-159)
