Blackhawks Continue Dominance of Red Wings

The Chicago Blackhawks will be looking to beat the Detroit Red Wings for the ninth time in 10 games when the two teams clash at the United Center on Saturday evening. The Blackhawks have climbed into a playoff spot in the Central Division thanks to an MVP-worthy season from Patrick Kane and super goaltending from rookie Kevin Lankinen.

Kane ranks third in the NHL scoring race with 10 goals and 31 points in 21 games, while Lankinen owns a stellar .921 save percentage in 14 starts. Backup goalie Malcolm Subban also posted a 26-save shutout Thursday against Columbus and has impressed with a .930 save percentage in his five appearances.

The Red Wings are averaging the fourth-fewest amount of shots per game in the league and have the fourth-worst penalty kill. This is a dreaded matchup for Detroit’s PK facing Chicago’s second-ranked power play. The Blackhawks puckline has cashed in all but two of their last eight victories over the Wings. With the tear Kane is on and Chicago’s stellar goaltending, expect the trend to continue Saturday.

Pick: Blackhawks -1.5 (+155)

Leafs And Oilers Cash the ‘Under’

Oddsmakers have unsurprisingly set a high total for the latest clash between the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday at Rogers Place. The Oilers have the highest-scoring offense in the NHL with 3.59 goals scored per game, while the Leafs come in at fourth with 3.52 GF/GP. In three of the four meetings between the two clubs this season, there have been at least six goals scored.

What’s important to note about the latest meeting is goaltending. Neither of the netminders who were in the crease for the prior high-scoring affairs are expected to be manning the nets Saturday. Oilers’ Mike Smith has taken over for Mikko Koskinen and is undefeated in six starts with an incredible .944 save percentage. Leafs’ starter Freddie Andersen is injured, which means Jack Campbell (.923 SV%) will get the nod against Edmonton.

The ‘under’ has cashed in seven of Toronto’s last 10 games overall and in six of Edmonton’s last nine. Toronto superstar Auston Matthews could also miss this game as he’s currently day-to-day with a wrist injury. Both these teams have plenty of offensive firepower, but there’s value betting on under seven goals being scored when you consider the Matthews injury and the goalies manning the crease.

Pick: Under 6.5 (-104)
