  • There’s five NHL games on tap for Friday, March 12th
  • Robert Duff won both of his Sunday picks, leaving his NHL record at 18-9 (+7.38 units won)
  • The Vegas Golden Knights have never won a game in St Louis

The Vegas Golden Knights have achieved quite a list of accomplishments during their brief NHL history, but winning a game in St Louis is still on their to do list. Oddsmakers are expecting that situation to change, though.

In the NHL picks for Friday, March 12th, Vegas is the -120 betting favorite to defeat the Blues at the Enterprise Center. The Golden Knights are 0-4 straight up in four previous visits to St Louis.

The Ottawa Senators are in Edmonton, where earlier this season the Sens were outscored 8-5 by the Oilers in a 1980s-style festival of scoring. However, if you’re thinking the over is the play here, you’ve not been paying attention. Only two of the past five Oilers-Senators games have gone over.

Vegas Has The Blues

This was going to be the return to St Louis for former Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo. However, the man who captained the Blues to the 2018-19 Stanley Cup title is out for the foreseeable future, according to the Golden Knights, who signed him as a free agent last summer.

Pietrangelo is listed as having an upper-body injury. He was injured blocking a shot in a March 6th game against the San Jose Sharks and hasn’t played since. Observers at that game were of the belief that Pietrangelo injured his left hand.

This development is disappointing to Blues fans and disruptive to the game plan of the Golden Knights. Pietrangelo leads Vegas and is sixth overall in average ice time per game at 25:27.

Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb returned to action Wednesday. He’d been out since Jan. 26th because of a lower-body injury. The Golden Knights also got forward Mark Stone, their leading point-getter with 28, back for that game from an undisclosed injury.

Though St Louis is 4-0 at home against the Golden Knights, they’ve all been close games. Three were decided by two goals and one by a solitary tally. Vegas did win 6-4 last season in what was designated a Blues home game, but it was played in the NHL’s return to play bubble in Edmonton.

Close calls are becoming a way of life for St Louis. The Blues have played seven consecutive one-goal games and are 4-1-2 over that span.

The last three St Louis games all went to extra time. The Blues were 4-0-2 on their just-completed six-game West Coast road trip. They should be well-rested. St Louis hasn’t played since Monday.

Blues center Oskar Sundqvist (undisclosed injury) is expected back Friday after missing the past two games.

Pick: St Louis Blues (+104)

Expect A Scoring Slowdown

The Oilers broke out of their team-wide scoring slump for a 7-1 rout of the Senators on Wednesday. That was as many goals as they’d scored in their previous five games combined.

It was the third time this season that Edmonton scored at least seven goals in a game. The Oilers haven’t counted more than four in either following game.

After Edmonton beat Ottawa 8-5 on January 31st, two nights later, the same two teams met in a 4-2 Oilers final.

Pick: Under 6.5 (-106)
