Canes Flex Dominance in Game 1
The Hurricanes showed why they are the top team in the Central Division with an impressive performance in their first game of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Canes outshot the Preds by a 38-24 margin and got two goals from captain Jordan Staal in a 5-2 Game 1 victory.
Carolina had won six regular-season games against Nashville, so the result in Game 1 wasn’t much of a surprise. Oddsmakers don’t think the Preds have much of a chance in this series, as the Predators are listed at the bottom of the 2021 Stanley Cup odds.

Carolina’s offense took care of business in Game 1, but it’s also a positive that rookie goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic was up to the task. The youngster made 22 saves on 24 shots in his Stanley Cup Playoff debut. Nedeljkovic posted a .932 save percentage in the regular season, and his play will be key to how far his team goes in the postseason.

Forsberg, Saros Are Bright Spots for Preds
Nashville was clearly outmatched in Game 1 against Carolina, but the Preds have a few weapons who could make this a series. Sniper Filip Forsberg scored a highlight-reel goal in the first period to open the scoring, while goaltender Juuse Saros turned in another strong performance with 33 saves.

Forsberg and Saros are two elite talents who could help Nashville steal a game or two. Forsberg is becoming a clutch playoff performer with 27 goals in 66 postseason contests, while Saros is one of the NHL’s best emerging goaltenders. The 26-year-old Finnish netminder finished the regular season with a .927 save percentage.
Nashville was tied 2-2 with Carolina entering the final period and actually performed better than expected given how one-sided the regular-season series was. The Preds may be able to garner a playoff victory at Bridgestone Arena, but they’ll be hard-pressed to beat Carolina in their electric home barn.
Predators vs Hurricanes Game 2 Best Bet
Nashville showed a few promising things in Game 1 that could make them a good value play at some point in this series. You’ll want to target them in Music City, however, and not on the road. The Canes went 20-3-5 at PNC Arena in the regular season and were operating at 12,000 capacity for Game 1.

The Canes are almost unbeatable on home ice and were clearly the better team in the opening game. Furthermore, forwards Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov appear ready to take over this series, as they combined for a goal and 15 shots in Game 1. Bet on Carolina continuing in the Predators vs Hurricanes Game 2 odds.
Pick: Hurricanes ML (-195)
