Bruins Going Under Total in Recent Games

Scoring has been an issue for the Bruins of late, partly due to the absence of sniper David Pastrnak. Boston has scored just 16 goals in seven games without their leading goal scorer, an average of 2.29 per game.

While that can kind of output would land most teams in a slump, they’ve managed a 3-4 record in those contests. Jeremy Swayman, who was making a big push in the Calder Trophy odds last month, is expected to get the start against Pittsburgh. The rookie netminder has the fifth-best goals against average in the NHL.

The Bruins have failed to go over the total in their last six games, hitting the under four times and pushing twice. In their 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday, the teams combined for just 53 shots on net in a low-scoring affair.

Penguins Missing Key Players vs Bruins

While the Pens don’t have a long list of players out, the two guys they are missing are crucial components to the team. Evgeni Malkin is serving the last of a four-game suspension for cross checking Mark Borowiecki in the mouth. More concerning, is number one netminder Tristan Jarry, who is out week-to-week with a foot fracture.

It’s unknown whether Jarry will be available for the start of the playoffs. After struggling through parts of last season, he’s bounced back this year, and garnered consideration in the Vezina Trophy odds. Even with the status of their starting goalie up in the air, the Penguins remain in the top 10 of the Stanley Cup odds.

This could be the last dance for the triumvirate of Crosby, Malkin and Kris Letang, with the latter two pending unrestricted free agents. A 3-6-1 record in their last 10 is cause for concern and with only five games left in the season, Pittsburgh is desperate for a win against the Bruins.

04/25/2021 PIT 1 – BOS 0 PIT PIT Under
04/03/2021 BOS 7 – PIT 5 BOS BOS Over

In the last 10 meetings between these two squads, they’ve gone under the total eight times. They’ve combined for an average of 4.9 goals per game in those ten matchups.

Bruins vs Penguins Pick & Prediction

On the heels of a low-scoring game between Boston and Pittsburgh, a lot of the trends point to the under once again in the Bruins vs Penguins Thursday NHL odds.

At an even six goals, the juice on the under is pretty attractive at -113. A better option is to bet on the Pens to get a much-needed victory. With Washington breathing down their necks, a loss would make them the most likely team to join Boston in a Wild Card playoff position.

These teams often exchange wins and losses. The team that lost the previous meeting between these two has gone on to get revenge and win the next game the last eight times. Expect the same to happen here and take the Penguins on the moneyline at Barstool Sportsbook.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline (-121)
