Puck drop for this tilt is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET in the first half of a TNT doubleheader with the Canucks and Flames to follow on a quiet Wednesday night in the NHL.

There are just three games in total on the docket in the Wednesday NHL odds, including this battle between two teams who have been fighting to stay in playoff position through the first two months of the season.

Although these teams are even in the standings, the Wild are very comfortable -260 home favorites against the Red Wings in the Wednesday NHL odds.

According to their moneyline odds, the Wild have an implied win probability of 72.22% to take this contest.

Red Wings Betting Analysis

If you think the Red Wings will be tired on the second half of a back-to-back, you might want to think again. This will be the fourth time they’ve played on consecutive days this season and so far, they’re 3-0-0 on the back end of those games. To top it off, all three of those wins were on the road.

It doesn’t mean they’re a lock in the NHL lines against the Wild, but it is something to consider. At 6-4-3, the Red Wings have actually performed pretty well on the road this season.

Where Detroit looks to have improved the most this year is in their own end. After finishing next to last in the NHL last season, allowing 3.78 goals per game, they’re right in the middle of the pack this year giving up just over three goals per contest.

Ville Husso has helped to stabilize the situation in net and although he hasn’t put up the offensive numbers he did last season, Moritz Seider is the horse on the blu line, playing almost 23 minutes per night. If the Red Wings do want to make serious noise as they chase a playoff spot, they’ll need the sophomore and pre-season contender in the Norris Trophy odds to bring more offense to the table.

Wild Humming at Home Lately

It’s been a tale of two seasons for Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center this year. They started 2-5-1 on home ice, but since November 18th, they’ve won six of seven in the friendly confines of their own arena.

One interesting thing to note is, even though Minnesota has been rolling at home lately, there’s been no easy wins. In fact, of their last five games on home ice, every single one has been decided by a single goal.

Part of the reason for these tight score lines might be the increased emphasis on defensive play for Minnesota. They just allowed one goal in their most recent win over Edmonton and shutout the Canucks in the game prior to that. That’s one goal allowed against two of the top 10 offenses in the league.

As usual, dynamic winger Kirill Kaprizov is leading the way on offense. He may not be amongst the top contenders in the Hart Trophy odds like he was last season, but with points in 15 of his last 16 games, you can bet the Red Wings will be focused on stopping the heartbeat of the Minnesota offense.

Red Wings vs Wild Pick & Prediction

The Wild have absolutely lit up the Red Wings in the last couple of seasons, scoring 24 goals in their past four meetings prior to this season. However, as we mentioned earlier, it’s a different, stingier Red Wings squad this year.

Detroit beat Minnesota 2-1 in their only meeting this season back in late-October. Although they may not run their streak of wins on the latter end of back-to-backs to four against Minnesota, we do expect them to at least keep it close in the Wednesday NHL odds.

Our prediction for this matchup is that the Red Wings force the Wild into a battle and maybe steal a point from them. In the Red Wings vs Wild odds, taking the underdog on the puck line provides too much value to ignore.

Pick: Detroit Red Wings Puck Line +1.5 (-130)
