  • The Tokyo Olympics continue on Tuesday, July 27th with more medals up for grabs

Three full days of medal events are in the books at the Tokyo Olympics, and surprisingly the United States rank behind China in overall medals won, and second to Japan in the gold medal category. The Americans will look to close the gap in both of those areas on Tuesday (July 27th), beginning with Women’s Softball.

USA is a -180 favorite to capture the gold, which would be its fourth in the five Olympic Games where the sport has been included.

Women’s Softball – Gold Medal Odds

Team Runline Moneyline Total
Japan +1.5 (-225) +135 O 4 (+105)
USA -1.5 (+165) -180 U 4 (-135)

Odds as of July 26th at DraftKings.

These two teams actually faced off in a thriller on Monday, with the winner earning last at-bat in the gold medal game. The U.S. earned a come from behind 2-1 victory, thanks to a walk-off home run by Kelsey Stewart.

The Americans finished the group stage with a perfect 5-0 record, conceding just two runs in the process. Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman have surrendered only a single run combined over 30.2 innings and will be seeking revenge for USA’s loss to Japan in the 2008 gold medal game (the last time the sport was played at the Olympics).

The host nation on the other hand, was 4-1 in the group stage and conceded only five runs. They elected to rest Yukiko Ueno, who defeated the U.S. in the 2008 gold medal game on Monday, meaning her arm will be fresh for Tuesday’s championship clash.

Pick: Under 4 (-135)

Men’s 100 Meter Backstroke Odds

Athlete Odds
Kliment Kolesnikov (ROC) -120
Ryan Murphy (USA) +150
Thomas Ceccon (ITA) +900
Evgeny Rylov (ROC) +1000
Mitch Larkin (AUS) +1100
Xu Jiayu (CHN) +1200
Robert Glinta (ROU) +4500
Hugo Gonzalez (ESP) +4500

Team USA is undefeated in the backstroke events since 1996, and Ryan Murphy will look to continue their reign of dominance on Tuesday. The defending Olympic champion in both the 100 meter and 200 meter disciplines has the second shortest odds in the 100m, behind Russian Kliment Kolesnikov.

Kolesnikov is the world record holder in the 50 meter backstroke, and posted the fastest time in the 100m heats. Murphy however, bested that number in the semis, and possesses the closing speed to upset the favorite. The 26-year-old American holds the World and Olympic record in this event, and represents excellent value at plus money to capture his fourth career Olympic gold medal.

Pick: Ryan Murphy (+150)

Women’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country Odds

Athlete Odds
Loana Lecomte (FRA) -285
Pauline Ferrand Prevot (FRA) +1000
Jenny Risveds (SWE) +1000
Kata Blanka Vas (HUN) +1600
Evie Richards (GBR) +1800
Jolanda Neff (SUI) +2000
Rebecca McConnell (AUS) +2800
Sina Frei (SUI) +3500
Caroline Bohe (DEN) +3500
Anne Terpstra (NED) +4000
Haley Batten (USA) +4000
Laura Stigger (AUS) +4000
Kate Courntey (USA) +5000

When it comes to Women’s Olympic Mountain Biking, there’s France’s Loana Lecomte and then there’s everyone else. The 21-year-old is undefeated on the World Cup circuit this year, winning all four races by healthy margins.

Not only has Lecomte won every race she’s entered in 2021, she’s also led every lap of every race. She has the power to tackle treacherous climbs and the finesse to navigate the most difficult terrains. This type of dominating talent doesn’t come around often, making her -285 odds actually seem quite appealing.

Pick: Loana Lecomte (-285)

Women’s Weightlifting 64 kg Odds

Athlete Odds
Maude Charron (CAN) +150
Mercedes Perez (COL) +175
Sarah Davies (GBR) +700
Angie Palacios (ECU) +700
Chen Wen-huei (TPE) +1000
Giorgia Bordignon (ITA) +1400
Marina Rodriguez (CUB) +2500
Lisa Schweizer (GER) +2500
Nuray Levent (TUR) +6500

The top-two 64 kg women weightlifters are absent from the Tokyo Games, leaving a giant opportunity for the rest of the field to capture a gold medal. Canada’s Maude Charron, fresh off a gold medal performance at this year’s Pan-Am games, is the favorite, but Colombia’s Mercedes Perez may be the better value.

YouTube video

Perez is a three-time Pan-Am Games champ (2011, 2015 and 2019) and boasts a career best total of 238 kg. She took bronze at the 2017 World Championships, and narrowly missed the podium at the Rio Games. She’s a much more experienced lifter than Charron, and I like her chances of rising to the occasion on Tuesday.

Pick: Mercedes Perez (+175)
