Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren are fading back. If they were the starting quarterbacks for Sunday’s Super Bowl game, that would be good news. But they aren’t.

Both Biden and Warren are running for President and have taken turns as the Democratic frontrunner in the 2020 election odds.

Across the leading sportsbooks, Biden’s average odds jumped from +479 to +543. Warren faded to +2163 from a previous line of +1756.

Biden is listed as the third betting choice at +600. Warren has slid all the way to the co-fifth favorite at +2000.

Is Trump’s Impeachment Impacting Biden?

As Trump’s impeachment trial continues in the Senate, Biden’s name will continue to be connected to the scandal. It was Trump’s decision to withhold military aid from Ukraine in order to try to force that country’s government to help him dig up dirt on Biden.

Biden’s son Hunter worked for a Ukrainian company while his father served as Barack Obama’s vice-president. Even though Trump’s allegation of corruption against Biden have proven to be unsubstantiated, the President continues to hammer away at it.

Trump is utilizing his bully pulpit to try and smear Biden’s name. And let’s face it, Trump spreading falsehoods has played well with his base throughout his Presidency.

Other Democratic contenders have taken subtle digs at Biden over the issue, although it’s a fine line to walk. They don’t want to amplify it to the point where it appears to add validity to Trump’s allegations. At the same time, some have quietly compared it to Hillary Clinton’s email scandal that helped scuttle her 2016 Presidential bid.

Did Warren Peak Too Soon?

There’s an old analogy about a boxer training for his first fight. He’s in the best shape of his life, puts in place a solid fight plan, and steps confidently into the ring. Then he gets punched in the face and all the training, all the planning, goes out the window.

Warren’s slogan is that she has a plan for that. Well, apparently the one thing she didn’t plan for was how to fight back. As recently as Oct. 10th, Warren was at average odds of +230 to win the Presidency.

That’s when her Democratic opponents went on the attack against some of her more radical plans, such as Medicare for all and free college tuitions. She was asked pointedly how she planned on paying for these plans, and stumbled over her answers.

Ever since then, her poll numbers and betting odds have gone into free fall.

Don’t Count Out Biden

While other candidates have surged and faded – Kamala, Harris, Warren, Pete Buttigieg and now Sanders – Biden has steadily run with the contenders. Sometimes he’s a bit ahead. Other times he’s a bit behind. But he’s never far off the lead.

That old saying to the steady goes the race comes to mind.

Biden is like a comfortable pair of shoes. After walking on hot coals for four years with Trump in charge, comfort is appealing to a lot of Americans.

Warren is done but Biden is far from finished.

Pick: Joe Biden (+600).
