Denny Hamlin

Hamlin is worth a look here after winning the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ first trip to Texas earlier this season. He started that race in sixth but wasted little time getting to the front and led for a total of 45 laps on the way to picking up the victory.

Fast-forward to this week’s race and Hamlin is looking to double down with a chance to let off some steam following last week’s post-race incident with Joey Logano. He’s done pretty well on intermediate tracks, picking three wins since the start of 2017, so he’ll have a good shot here.

Kevin Harvick Loves Texas

Any time the boys go racing in Texas, Harvick’s name is one that absolutely must be considered from a betting perspective. After all, Harvick is a two-time defending champion at this specific event. He also placed eighth in the first trip to Texas Motor Speedway earlier this season.

Since the start of 2017, he has the best average finish of any driver with at 3.20. In five races, he has two wins and has finished in the Top 10 every time while leading for a whopping 22.65% of the laps. He’s one of the drivers you’ll want to look at this week.

Ryan Blaney Worth a Top 10

If you’re looking for a sleeper, Blaney might be the best pick on the board. The driver of the No. 12 Ford picked up his first win of the season at Talladega a couple of weeks ago. He’s currently in sixth place in the standings and will likely need a victory this week in order to have a shot at making the final four.

He’s been decent at this track as he’s finished with three Top 10’s in his last five starts here. His driver rating over that span (110.1) is second-best only to Harvick. He’s actually led 13.93% of the laps, which is also second only to Harvick. He seems like a reasonable bet to place in the Top 10.

2017 Kevin Harvick
2016 Carl Edwards
2015 Jimmie Johnson
2014 Jimmie Johnson

Avoid Kyle Busch

Busch is currently third in the updated standings heading into this weekend’s race in Texas but the driver of the No. 18 Toyota has run out of gas. He hasn’t won a race since early June and he doesn’t have a great history here.

Although he does have one win here in his last five starts, he’s placed 10th or worse here in the other four outings. I’d pass on him here as the price tag doesn’t entice me.
