Hamlin Is Red Hot

Hamlin is the hottest drivers on the circuit right now as he’s placed in the Top 5 in six straight starts. That includes a win last week at Bristol, which was actually his second win in his last four outings. This is his second hot streak of the season as he previously had a stretch where he placed in the Top 7 in six straight starts.

Darlington is one of Hamlin’s best tracks, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked up the win here again. He placed 10th here last year but prior to that, had finished in the Top six in seven of his previous eight starts at Darlington. He should be in contention for the win this week.

Will Logano Get Back On Track?

Logano hasn’t placed in the top ten in any one of his last four starts, and yet he still ranks fifth in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings in top ten’s on the year. Considering his overall skillset, Logano is undoubtedly due for a bounce back performance this weekend.

Currently fourth in the standings, Logano has a really good shot at picking up his third victory of the year in a race that he was the runner-up in last season. That was actually his third Top 5 there in his last four starts. I like him for a top ten prop this week.

Kyle Larson Should Finish Well

Larson led 284 of the 367 laps that make up this race here last year before eventually falling behind Brad Keselowski and Logano to finish third. Now the driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet enters the Bojangles’ Southern 500 searching for his first victory of the season as he tries to hang on to a playoff spot.

He has a strong track record at Darlington as he has four Top 10’s in his five starts there. His worst start there was a 14th in 2017.

Larson has a comfortable lead on drivers like Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson above the cutoff line. However, a win this weekend would solidify his position and provide him with a significant point boost heading into the postseason.

Avoid Chase Elliott

Elliott is in the midst of an impressive stretch in which he has placed in the top ten in three straight starts, including a win at Watkins Glen. However, as hot as he has been, it seems as though Elliott is overdue for a bit of a drop off.

Elliott has ten top ten finishes this season, but that’s actually the second-fewest among all of the drivers ranked in the top 15 of the standings. Elliott has never won at Darlington before, finishing outside of the top ten in two of his four career starts here. I’m not expecting a big day from him.
