  • Atalanta has enjoyed a perfect start to the Serie A campaign, winning their first three matches
  • In the process, they’ve shortened their title odds to just +350, but still sit behind Inter Milan and Juve
  • Does Atalanta offer value as the possible league winners or should Juventus or Inter still be considered a favorite? Get the odds, analysis, and best bet below

After an impressive season last term where they finished third in Italy’s top-flight and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Atalanta has come out firing once again to begin this campaign. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side has destroyed their opponents thus far, bagging 13 goals in just three matches while conceding just five.

In regards to the Serie A Odds, Atalanta was at +1333 in August. In September, they were at +1167 and still a longshot to win the title. But after their torrid start, they’re now at just +350 and only a touch behind Juve and Inter.

Atalanta Continue to Impress

Aside from losing defender Timothy Castagne to Leicester City, Atalanta still has an attacking-heavy squad who have carried their impressive form right over from last season. Striker Alejandro Gomez already has four goals and two assists through three matches, which leads Serie A. His counterparts up top in Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel have both looked impressive as well, all netting goals so far. Slovenian star Josip Ilicic is still recovering from an injury, but once he returns, they’re going to have so many options to choose from in the final third.

The fact that Atalanta has so many reliable players on the attack is what makes them such a special side. Their backline had its shaky moment’s last term, but so far, they have also looked solid. All in all, Gasperini’s men continue to run riot on their opponents. The current league leaders even buried Lazio on Matchday 2 by a healthy margin, beating Simone Inzaghi’s squad 4-1. They’ve scored four or more goals in all matches to this point and although it’s very early in the season, Atalanta should definitely be included in the Scudetto talks.

Juve Adjusting to Life Under Pirlo

The Old Lady debuted with a convincing 3-0 win over Sampdoria in their opener, but then tied Roma 2-2 after Cristiano Ronaldo netted the equalizer in the 69th minute. Their third match was postponed after several players on Napoli tested positive for COVID-19.

It’s hard to make a lot of judgments about Juve so far, but they’ve certainly bolstered their squad with numerous signings. Weston McKennie, Arthur, Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa, and Dejan Kulusevski are the most notable ones, who are all attacking players. Andrea Pirlo is not short of options to pick from each and every weekend. As Juve contends for their tenth-straight Serie A title, the likes of Atalanta and Inter Milan will pose a threat to the current title-holders.

Inter Looking to Dethrone Juventus

Inter Milan was well in the running for the title in 2019/20, finishing just behind Juve in the end. It was a terrific season for Antonio Conte’s side, but they fell short of their goal. To win Serie A and a European trophy, where they lost in the Europa League Final to Sevilla. With an already lethal duo up top in Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez who work extremely well together, Conte went out and added even more key players in Arturo Vidal and Achraf Hakimi.

Inter are 2-1-0 so far after drawing with Lazio last weekend. They’ve had no issues finding the back of the net, scoring ten goals already, with Martinez and Lukaku both grabbing three apiece. The backline has looked a bit vulnerable at times, but the likes of Stefan De Vrij and Milan Skriniar have proven to be reliable in their own end.

Should AC Milan’s Perfect Start Mean Anything?

AC Milan is a perfect 3-0-0 and have yet to concede a goal. However, they haven’t faced the toughest opponents. Milan did turn things around towards the end of last term, finishing on a high note. But, they failed to address their biggest need in the summer transfer window and that was to sign a center-back. Although it hasn’t looked to hurt them yet, I don’t see them competing for a title. But, Stefano Pioli’s side could make a push for a top-four finish and at the very least, a Europa League spot.

Best Bet

Atalanta is a high-flying side who play very exciting football. But, I believe that Inter Milan is still the best bet to win the title this term. There are so many fixtures still left and it’s tough to make any assumptions at this point, but in my opinion, Inter offers the most value given their busy summer and desire to win their first Scudetto since 2009/10. Atalanta and Juventus will be right alongside Conte’s men all season long, but they will both fall short.

Pick: Inter Milan +200
