  • Manchester City takes on Aston Villa this Sunday (Mar. 1) at 11:30 AM ET in the EFL Cup Final at Wembley Stadium
  • Pep Guardiola and the Citizens look to make it their third consecutive victory in the competition
  • Currently, Man City are astoundingly short favorites with a moneyline of -769

After a monumental Champions League victory this week, Manchester City looks to add more silverware to their cabinet against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 1st, 11:30 AM ET). They are looking for the three-peat in England’s lowest-ranked competition, but nonetheless, the Premier League is out of reach for both teams, so expect a fiery cup final between two highly motivated sides.

While truly anything can happen in a cup final, this one has the chance to get a little bit ugly for the lads from Villa Park. Their aggregate score from their two Premier League matchups with City this season was 9-1, featuring six different goalscorers for Pep Guardiola’s side. It is impossible to write Villa off, especially with the talent of Jack Grealish and former Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. But still, this is an extremely unfavorable matchup.

Aston Villa Can and Will Surprise You

So far in February, Aston Villa has not been able to scrounge a point in the EPL, losing to Bournemouth, Tottenham and Southampton. They now find themselves only one point safe of the relegation zone.

Before this poor run of form came two brilliant wins against Watford and Leicester City, which goes to show that this team can put a shift in any day of the week.

To be fair, Jack Grealish is one England’s most-promising young midfielders, and he can spark this team on when he really wants to. With seven goals and six assists this campaign, expect him to be the one behind the ball if Villa manages to put their stamp on the game.

Man City On a String of Good Results

On the flip side of the coin, opponents Manchester City have been able to piece back together some poor form into some recent wins. In just the past two weeks they have managed wins against West Ham, Leicester City and Real Madrid, with the latter two being away from home.

Scoring two at the Bernabéu is no joke, and unfortunately for Aston Villa, they do not have Sergio Ramos or Raphael Varane to aid them in defense. Tyrone Mings will have to be enough to keep the Citizens out of the goal, which will be tough for a side that has the third worst goal differential in the Premier League.

Regardless of the their squad oozing talent, it looks like City will have to play without Aymeric Laporte, which could possibly affect the goal total, if not the outcome.

Best Bet

The best bet for this match is the over at 3, 3.5 goals at -113 odds. This bet makes sense with the two teams’ respective forms and past playing history. City have beat down Villa both games this year, and coming hot off a victory against Real Madrid, they will be hungry for a chance at silverware.

For their part, Villa can put one in, which leads one to believe this game should be a fairly high scoring affair at Wembley.

My Pick: Over 3, 3.5 (-113)
