With a seven-point lead in top spot over RB Leipzig currently, Bayern Munich will be looking for another key victory as they eye another title when Borussia Monchengladbach comes to town. Kick-off is set for 12:30 PM EST.

The reigning champions actually suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to FC Mainz last time out. It was their first domestic loss since February 20th. Gladbach on the other hand, who are fighting for their European lives, beat Arminia Bielefeld 5-0 on Matchday 31.

The last meeting saw Munich take a quick two-goal lead, only for Monchengladbach to equalize before the half then net a winner early in the second period to secure a 3-2 victory.

Can Bayern Wrap up the Title?

Round 31 was a clear-cut opportunity to secure their ninth-straight Meisterschale, but Bayern slipped up at Mainz. However, barring Leipzig doesn’t lose to Dortmund beforehand, the Bavarians can clinch the title if they beat Monchengladbach on Saturday. A victory would ultimately secure it for Bayern, regardless of what Julian Nagelsmann’s men do.

At this point, the Bundesliga is all Hansi Flick’s side has left to play for. They were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarterfinals stage by PSG, much in part to the absence of hitman Robert Lewandowski. DFB-Pokal hardware isn’t in the cards either, having lost in the second round to second-tier outfit Holstein Kiel.

If Munich does win here, it would be only the second time they win the league on home soil, also doing so in the 2018/19 campaign. After almost two weeks off since their last fixture, with the German Cup semifinals taking place last weekend, Bayern should come out relatively fresh.

For Lewandowski, he’s chasing history. The Pole has 36 goals to his name this term in league play, sitting just four shy of Gerd Muller’s single-season record of 40. Flick also has a healthy squad at his disposal, with the exception of Douglas Costa and Corentin Tolisso.

However, this fixture will not be easy. Bayern hasn’t lost to any other side in the German top-flight more than Gladbach (26 times). Since 2011/12, they’ve tasted defeat against them on eight occasions.

Monchengladbach Chasing Europa

It’s been a very underwhelming season for Die Fohlen, currently sitting in seventh place and four points off Leverkusen for the final Europa League spot for next term. It’s a far cry from their Champions League Round of 16 exit back in March to Man City, but their form has been improving.

Gladbach is 3-1-1 in their five games, throttling Bielefeld on home soil on April 25th. Breel Embolo ended his 15-game cold spell in front of goal, bagging a brace in the victory, while Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea also found the net.

It’s always a daunting task when you have to face such a tactically brilliant team like Bayern, but Monchengladbach clearly knows what to expect. While it seems inevitable that their oppositions are going to win it all, Rose’s squad will simply be focused on getting three positive results to end the term.

If Gladbach can beat Munich, it would be the first time they do the double over the champions in 10 years. Despite the impressive track record against the Bavarians though, the Foals have been atrocious on the road, going 4-6-5 while collecting just one win in their last eight matches away from Borussia-Park.

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach Prediction

I know Monchengladbach has played terrific football against Bayern. But, the hosts literally haven’t lost once all season long at the Allianz Arena. It’s also highly unlikely they will drop points for the second consecutive game.

However, it should be a competitive, goal-filled clash. I don’t expect Munich to cruise to an easy victory, but the full three points will be secured. Also, the last seven meetings between these two have hit the ‘Over’ in goals. Therefore, it’s a valuable bet once again.
