Pick 1: FC Slutsk vs BATE Borisov
In the opening weeks of the season, when the eyes of the world were on the Belarus Premier League as it was the only active top-level professional league in Europe, Slutsk were riding high. Five wins in their opening seven games saw them go top of the league for a couple of weeks, during which time – despite experiencing financial difficulties – they picked up a worldwide cult following.
But, on the field, since those heady first few weeks of the season, it’s been a steady decline and they’ve managed only a single win since May 2 – a 2-1 home win over Isloch in mid-July. As a result, their slide down the table has been gradual and painful and they now find themselves on the edge of the relegation places, with a real risk of them slipping to 14th, which would entail a playoff for their Premier League place for next season.

BATE, by contrast, are still in with a great chance of winning the title as the league enters its final stages. And with co-leaders Shakhtar facing a tricky away game at Slavia Mozyr, this gives Borisov a golden opportunity to seize the initiative, and it’s hard to see them slipping up. While there’s no value in the straight win (-310), Slutsk’s habit of conceding two goals per game makes the 2-0 win for BATE an attractive-looking bet.
Pick: BATE to win 2-0 (+600)
Pick 2: Slavia Mozyr vs Shakhter Soligorsk
For all the reasons stated above, this one is massive for Shakhter. A win and they head into round 25 with a genuine chance of winning only their second Premier League title, but a draw or a defeat immediately makes BATE favorites if, as expected, they beat Slutsk. As ever, Shakhter will look to their ultra-mean defense to offer them a solid base – they’ve conceded just 13 goals in their 23 games – but after hitting five last week, against Vitebsk, they now look full of goals too.
For Slavia, things are looking bleaker. They haven’t won a league game since the first week in July and are just one defeat away from potentially getting sucked into the relegation places. Last time out, Mozyr were well beaten (4-2) by Torpedo and it’s a big ask for them to avoid defeat here, especially with the stakes so high for the visitors. When the two played each other earlier in the season in Soligorsk it was a 2-0 home win, and there’s no way of justifying anything other than an away win. I predict an emphatic victory for Shakhter.
Pick: Shakhter to win 3-0 (+1000)
Pick 3: Isloch vs Dinamo Minsk
Isloch are in scintillating form and are on a run, including cup games, of six wins on the bounce – a run that’s taken them up to fourth place in the table. It’s also a run that saw them beat high-flying Shakhter 4-2.
Dinamo Minsk have flattered to deceive over the course of the season but have still won ten of their 22 games, so remain dangerous opponents. They do however come into this one off the back of three defeats on the spin – a mini-run that includes defeats in the Belarus Cup and the Europa League – and so have a big task on their hands to lift themselves.
With Isloch still in positive odds, the value here is very much with the home win.
Pick: Isloch to win (+155)
