All odds taken June 4

Pick1: Slutsksakhar Slutsk vs. Torpedo BelAZ

Slutsk were top of the league a month ago, but four straight defeats have seen them tumble to fifth in the table. It’s a worrying slide and one they need to arrest as soon as possible if they are to give themselves a chance of European soccer next season.

Torpedo have shown more consistency than the hosts and are two places and four points better off, and come into this one off the back of a win after beating lowly Smolevichy at home last weekend. While both teams have scored a similar number of goals, Torpedo have operated better as a defensive unit and are conceding less than a goal a game.

Given that games between these two tend to be low-scoring affairs – ‘Under’ 2.5 goals in four of their last six meetings – it’s fair to expect another one here. Equally, it’s hard to see Slutsk making too much of an impression on Torpedo’s defense, so I’m going for a single goal win for the visitors.

Pick: Torpedo to win (+147)

Pick 2: Slavia Mozyr vs. Neman Grodno

Slavia comes into this off the back of a narrow 3-2 away win at bottom-of-the-table Belshina – a result that ended a three-game winless run – and desperately need another three points to stay in touch with the top four. Mihail Martsinovich’s team head into the Neman game as favorites and, as ever at home, will be given a helping hand by a vociferous home crowd, who’ll be willing them over the line.

Neman come into this one in good shape though – having won their last two (against Torpedo and Gorodeya) – and they’ll know a win will take them above Slavia, but Igor Kovalevich’s team are not good travelers and this will be a tough afternoon for them. It’s hard to see them making it three wins in three, however great the incentive.

The last time these two met it was a victory for Neman but this one will be close with two very well-matched teams. For me, the value is with the draw.

Pick: Slavia and Neman to draw (+209)

Pick 3: Shakhtar Soligorsk vs Energetyk-BDU

It’s second versus fourth in Soligorsk this weekend as the visitors, Energetyk, look to keep the pressure on leaders BATE.  For the hosts, a win would see them leapfrog the Students in the table and potentially replace them in second. The stakes are very high.

Shakhtar’s season has been a slow burner but they’ve now found a rich vein of form and have picked up 13 points from the last 15 available. Their strength is their defense and they’ve kept five consecutive clean sheets. The Students have also been punching above their weight and they too have taken 13 points from their last five games, so it promises to be a titanic struggle.

The last time these two met in the league, Shakhtar won  2-1 and it would be no shock to see a similar result again but the +543 for Energetyk – who are second in the league let’s not forget – is really hard to ignore. It really is worth a punt.

Pick: Energetyk to win (+543)
