Borussia Dortmund will be looking for revenge on Wednesday, November 3rd as Ajax visits Signal Iduna Park on Champions League Matchday 4.

The hosts were embarrassed on October 19th by the Dutch outfit, who beat them 4-0 at Johan Cruyff Arena. Nevertheless, both sides sit in the top two spots in Group C, with Ajax grabbing a perfect nine points from three matches thus far.

Dortmund Playing Quality Football

Aside from the humiliating defeat in Amsterdam, Dortmund has been playing very well. They currently sit just one point behind Bayern Munich for top spot in the Bundesliga, losing only twice domestically. In fact, Marco Rose’s side has collected six wins from seven competitive matches, most recently beating Koln at the weekend by two goals.

Thorgan Hazard and Steffen Tigges found the back of the net in the victory, but it was the third consecutive game played without talisman Erling Haaland. After returning from a thigh injury prior to the Ajax clash, the Norwegian hasn’t played since that night at Johan Cruyff and could be out until the new year, which is a massive blow to Dortmund. After all, he’s their leading catalyst in the final third and a huge piece of their success thus far, already bagging 14 goals across all competitions.

While this is a huge clash on Wednesday for the Black and Yellows, it’s a chance for revenge. Rose’s men were absolutely toothless in the final third in this exact same meeting on Matchday 3, getting ripped to shreds by Ajax, going down by two goals within the first 25 minutes of the fixture. But, Dortmund has really bounced back defensively, conceding only once across their last three outings.

Unfortunately, Haaland isn’t their only injury. Nico Schulz, Raphael Guerriero, and Mateu Morey are all sidelined for Wednesday’s game, while Gio Reyna, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Dan-Axel Zagadou are doubtful. Hazard has scored three of his side’s last four goals and will definitely be relied upon to be a key figure up top once again here, especially without Haaland in the mix.

Ajax Dominating

The Eredivisie standouts are flying high this term domestically and in Europe. They’re in first place in the Dutch top flight, tasting defeat just once while scoring a whopping 37 goals and conceding a mere two times in 11 appearances. Ajax has really shown their quality in the Champions League as well, solidifying themselves as a potential dark horse in the knockout stages.

Erik ten Hag’s men ran riot on Matchday 1 against Sporting Lisbon, firing five past the Portuguese outfit. Victories over Besiktas and Dortmund followed, with striker Sebastian Haller proving to be the star of the show. The Ivory Coast international netted four times versus Sporting, then scored and supplied two assists in the BVB match. He currently leads the competition with six goals to his name, also scoring seven in league play.

Although Group C isn’t necessarily the toughest of the bunch, Ajax is proving to be superior. Not only do they have a perfect record, but de Godenzonen also possesses a fabulous goal-differential, smashing home 11 while allowing just conceding just once.

Ajax coach ten Hag is dealing with absences of his own for Wednesday though, with first-choice keepers Andre Onana and Marteen Stekelenburg. Zakaria Labyad and Noussair Mazraoui are also sidelined because of illness. With another victory against Dortmund, Ajax can solidify their spot in the round of 16.

Dortmund vs Ajax Prediction

The hosts are currently enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run on home soil, which is certainly a reason for optimism. Without Haaland, their attack doesn’t have the same feel but after a few victories, I think you’ll see a better result than last time against Ajax. However, the points will likely be shared on Wednesday. Take the draw, with both teams scoring. Combining these bets, a scored draw, also offers +275 odds.

Pick: Draw (+290), Both Teams to Score (-255)
