Brazil are one of the favorites to win gold in the Men’s Soccer at the Tokyo Olympics. It’s no surprise to see them as heavy favorites for their matchup with Egypt. Egypt progressed to the last eight despite getting just one win in their group matches. They couldn’t have landed a much tougher draw.

As reigning Olympic champions, Brazil were always fancied to medal in Tokyo. Their group stage performances have only furthered that belief, and they have a favorable path to the final as they will matchup with South Korea or Mexico in the semifinals if they beat Egypt on Saturday.

Richarlison Leads the Way

Richarlison has been the player of the tournament so far and it isn’t close. With five goals across their two victories, the former Watford forward is in one of those purple patches that has previously led to links with Barcelona. Supported by Antony, Matheus Cunha and Claudinho, Richarlison’s physical presence and direct dribbling has posed opposing defenses problems.

Egypt have been resolute thus far, but this is their greatest test. Brazil have lived up to their reputation going forward, and with Douglas Luiz returning from suspension, the midfield is getting important reinforcements. It’s going to be a challenge for Egypt to get any meaningful possession.

While they made life difficult for Spain and Argentina, Egypt posed little threat in either match. They need to keep Brazil honest with committed counter-attacking. They are unlikely to move away from the 3-5-2 after a good win against Australia, but it will be interesting to see how Shawky Gharieb uses his bench if they fall behind.

Experience Matters

Experience is a factor in knockout competitions. Staying calm under pressure in fixtures like this is crucial. Despite predominantly being for under-23s, Brazil’s squad has plenty of experience of high-pressure situations.

A lot have featured in continental club competitions, and few players in world football are as accustomed to contests like this as Dani Alves.

This isn’t a squad lacking big-game experience. That’s a real blow to Egypt’s hopes, as their best chance on Saturday would be the Brazilians freezing under the expectation of a nation. Given the freedom with which they played the group games, that seems very unlikely.

Comfortable Brazil Win

There’s only one winner here. Brazil have been a constant threat going forward in these Olympics. Saudi Arabia and Germany were unable to keep them quiet, with both teams losing by two goals. It’s fair to view the Ivory Coast match as an anomaly after Douglas Luiz’s harsh red card with just 10 minutes played.

Egypt’s ability to keep it tight, conceding just once in their three matches so far, might put some off betting Brazil at -1.5. The sheer attacking force of the 2016 gold medallists cannot be overstated, though. This Brazil team has enough to blow Egypt away, and they have been comfortable creating chances even against teams who have sat deep.

Having recorded comfortable wins against Colombia and Honduras in the knockout stages five years ago, Brazil are looking at another stress-free win in the last eight. Covering the -1.5 spread looks a good bet at +110, and there’s value in backing Richarlison to continue his scintillating form. The Everton forward is -110 to score anytime and +475 to score two or more.

Pick: Brazil -1.5 (+110)
