  • Matchday 26 in the Bundesliga is full of exciting fixtures that are sure to mix up the middle of the table in Germany, featuring Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke and Leipzig vs Freiburg as the two key fixtures
  • Some games will be played behind closed doors because of the pandemic coronavirus, which will surely alter the outcome of some matches
  • See the odds, analysis and best bets for this weekend’s matches below

With nine games remaining in the 2019/2020 Bundesliga campaign, Bayern Munich still sit atop the table by a slender four points, ahead of league rivals Borussia Dortmund. Bayern have a theoretical pass this weekend, going up against the underdogs, Union Berlin, while Dortmund will face the tough test of Schalke 04 who are placed in fifth.

Third place RB Leipzig, who are coming off their Champions League upset against Tottenham Hotspur, take on eighth place Freiburg in a match that could put Timo Werner and his teammates closer to that first place spot. Further down the table, Koln battle Mainz 05, and Hoffenheim host Hertha Berlin which could cause a massive shake up in the table.

Bundesliga Pick 1: Hoffenheim vs Hertha Berlin

The first key fixture of the weekend takes place in Hoffenheim, as they host Hertha Berlin in a #9 vs #13 matchup. Alfred Schreuder and his men face a Hertha side that have only managed to win one Bundesliga match out of their last five. Despite Hoffenheim’s higher placement in the table, they too have been struggling as of late, picking up only two points in their last five.

When analyzing their recent form, both sides have been struggling to put a handful of goals in. On average, across five games, the two sides have managed to combine for 2.4 goals a game, which leads me to believe the game will be “Under” three total goals with odds of (-132).

Pick: Under 3 (-132)

Bundesliga Pick 2: Union Berlin vs Bayern Munich

The league leaders from Munich travel to Union Berlin this weekend in a David vs Goliath matchup. The two teams are 25 points apart in the table, but the last time these two sides faced Berlin kept it respectable, only losing 2-1.

Sadly, for Urs Fischer and his team, Bayern have won six out of six, by a combined score of 19-3, beating some teams like Chelsea, Hoffenheim and Schalke along the way. This game will not be a question of who wins, but instead by how much. Bayern seem to be clicking almost too well, which is why I think they will cover the spread at -2, with odds of (+104)

Pick: Bayern Munich Spread -2 (+104)

Bundesliga Pick 3: RB Leipzig vs Freiburg

The last key matchup of the weekend features Leipzig hosting Freiburg. For Freiburg, this match will be crucial for their Europa League dreams, while Leipzig need to win to keep the pace with Dortmund and Bayern at the top. Leipzig are fresh off their Champions League smashing of Tottenham and have been perfect in their past six matches across all competitions.

Freiburg are struggling to pick up consistent wins, and have been on the wrong side of some unfriendly away scorelines this year. With these two teams’ run of form in consideration, there is no way Leipzig does not cover the spread of -1 1/2, 2 here, and with odds of (-111), the bet runs great odds.

Pick: RB Leipzig Spread -1 1/2, 2 (-111)
